Today is a Professional Learning Day for our staff in the area of Mathematics learning and teaching. We have invited Michele Klooger to facilitate this day with a focus on the area of cognitively demanding tasks.
Michele is a lecturer at Monash University and her research interests include:
- using pedagogy that engages all children in challenging tasks with appropriate timely scaffolding and questioning to maintain a high cognitive demand threshold for all.
- flexible grouping structures that do not exclude children from opportunities to learn important mathematics concepts.
- enabling and extending prompts to support students who are experiencing difficulty and those who require extension of the task.
- learning mathematics through inquiry. The use of structured inquiry-based pedagogy, focussing on the key ideas in mathematics.
These days are so important in supporting our staff to continue to deepen their knowledge of high impact teaching strategies that are supported by the latest research. Our Learning Support Officers also participate in these days working and learning alongside our teachers. We look forward to a day of rich learning with Michele.
