From the Acting Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Information about Year 7's to HS is beginning to come through to us and we will endeavour to keep you updated as we receive any information. There are three Department for Education schools in South Australia who are offering enrolment's for Year 7’s to start at their schools in 2020, these schools are:-  Wirreanda High School, Mitcham Girls High School and John Pirie High School at Port Pirie. The remainder of the schools are enrolling Yr 7’s in 2022. This means that if your child is currently in Year 4 this year they will commence high school in Year 7, making Year 6 their final year at Thiele Primary School.

I am pleased to announce that I have been very busy meeting with our prospective new families and taking them on school tours where I am always delighted to show them our school and all of the wonderful programs and learning opportunities provided at Thiele and on Campus. If you know of any families in the local area who have young children ready to start school in the next year or two would you encourage them to book a time to meet with me so that I can take them on a tour as it is important that we have their enrolment form so that we can keep them updated with dates of meetings and transition visits. The new Reception parents will be invited to the Parent Information meeting which will be held towards the end of this term where they will have the opportunity to receive information to assist them with their child starting school and ask questions to support them with a smooth start to school for their child.  The transition sessions for our new reception students will occur early in term 4.

During this term we also start planning for 2020. To assist us with this process, if you are planning to move from the area or know of families who are moving into the area please inform us of this as soon as possible.

There are two more surveys links available for you to complete and I look forward to receiving your feedback, as your children are the centre of everything we do and we aspire to improve student learning outcomes for every student who attends Thiele Primary School.

National Science Week - Casual Day

National Science Week will celebrated here at Thiele Primary School from the 12th - 16th of August (Week 4).

The theme this year is Destination Moon: More Missions, More Science, Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of

the First Moon Landing in 1969.

As part of the celebration, students may wear casual clothes on Tuesday the 13th August, dressing up as either an astronaut, a scientist, a technologist, an engineer or a mathematician in celebration of the theme. We ask that they wear tops with sleeves for sun protection (no singlet tops) and closed in shoes particularly for those students with PE lessons on that day. No donation will be necessary.

Science Donations

If anyone has any 500 ml or 600 ml plastic bottles it would be appreciated as they will be used them for Science projects.

Knockout Netball

This year knockout games are set out in a carnival style meaning that teams play multiple games on one day. Thiele Primary School played against Eden Hills in the first game and St Joseph’s Kingswood in the second game. The girls had trained all term in anticipation for our first games, they were all committed and dedicated to developing and growing as individual players and as a team.

The girls demonstrated a high level of play in both games, with a result of winning game one against Eden Hills and sadly losing their second game to St Joseph’s Kingswood. Captain Leani V and Co-captain Hannah L demonstrated great leadership skills throughout the competition to a team who valued them as peers and fellow team members.

Knockout Football

On Friday 2nd August, Thiele’s Year 6/7 SAPSASA knockout football team travelled to Christies Beach Primary School for our second game. Our boys were very successful in doing so and won the game by 115 points. Teamwork, resilience and effort were all on display as the boys got the job done. The team is now one win away from a spot in the small schools Grand Final. Our next game is later this term. Well done boys!

Bowker St Soccer Carnival - Volunteers Needed

On the Monday 12th August Campus will be hosting the U8 Bowker Street Soccer Carnival.

As most of you will have had a chance to experience the carnival with your son or daughter participating in the U9, U10 or Senior carnivals before this date you will know what a big event this is.

Our Campus Events Committee will be in charge of coordinating this event for us and we would love to have parent volunteers to assist on the BBQ and in the canteen. This is potentially our biggest fundraising opportunity for the year.

If you are available on the 12th from 6.00 pm to 8.00 pm to help please let me know ASAP via email so we can start coordinating a roster.

 Many thanks in advance

Bianca

Campus Performing Arts Showcase

Campus Performing Arts Showcase will be held in on Thursday 15th August (Week 4). There will be a Matinee (1.30 pm) and an Evening Performance (6.30 pm). Forms are/were sent home in Week 1 with all the details, ticket orders, permission slips for participating students, etc., so please keep an eye out for this and return it as soon as possible to the Campus Office. If your child is not participating but you would still like to attend, please see Bianca in the Campus Office.

Auditions for individual and small group acts were held in Performing Arts lessons during the final weeks of last term, with over 60 students auditioning for just 11 performance slots. As you can imagine, the competition was fierce with some wonderful students sharing some spectacular talents! Students were advised in Week 10 of last term as to whether they won a position this year. Congratulations to those who were successful, and I encourage all students who did not win a place this year to keep on honing their skills and to take up every opportunity to audition and perform in the future.

We look forward to sharing this exciting event with you in Week 4!
