National SASS Recognition Week
Our SAS staff play an important role in the school community. They are often the first people you see when you enter the school and are essential to maintaining positive relationships with students, parents and the community. SAS staff work in school offices, in classrooms and libraries and some maintain and care for school grounds and buildings. They are often the ones to tend to students when they are unwell and they ensure the efficient management of school financial and administration functions.
At Hammondville Public School we are very blessed to have passionate and professional SAS staff that consistently provide quality support to all members of our school community. I would like to thank all our SAS staff for your continuous commitment to Hammondville Public School. Thank you to Mr Royce, Mrs Talevski, Mrs Hudson-O’Farrell, Mrs Johnson, Mrs McCulloch, Mrs Ford, Mrs Hogan, Mrs Royal, Mrs Potts, Mrs Cadden, Mrs Longford, Mrs Tyler, Mrs Lo-Castro, Mr Hine and Mr Meogrossi-Sarno.
K-2 Athletics Carnival
Our infants students had a great time last week competing in the K-2 Athletics Carnival. It was a lovely sunny day and fun was had by all involved. Thank you to all staff for your planning and organisation on the day and your additional time spent ensuring this event was COVID safe.
Pyjama Day and PBL Reward Day
This Friday 28 August the P&C will be holding a Pyjama Mufti Day. All students and teachers are encouraged to wear their winter pyjamas and bring in a gold coin donation to support the P&C fundraising efforts. In addition to this mufti day we will also be holding our PBL Reward Day. As a school we have been working hard to earn Hero Tokens and have reached the reward line in our Token Tower. This means that on Friday we will be having a movie watching session with popcorn (COVID safe in individualised packaging), supplied for all students. Congratulations Hammondville students for following our PBL expectations of Be Safe, Be Respectful and Be a Learner.
Science Drawing Competition Winners
Congratulations to all students who participated in our Science week drawing competition. There were many creative and inspiring drawings produced by students across K-6. It was great to see so many entries. Well done to our winners: Kindergarten: Alana and Claire, Stage 1: Andrew and Amelia, Stage 2: Aydin and Jewelz, Stage 3: Chantel and Kweli.
Sickness
It is important that in our current situation we do not become complacent and send children to school with respiratory symptoms. If you child is sneezing, coughing, has a runny nose, fever, sore throat they are to remain home and get tested for COVID-19 before returning to school. It is important that you notify the school office that your child is being tested and also follow up with confirmation of the test results. If your child comes to school and exhibits these symptoms then you will be called to pick them up. Together we can remain vigilant and maintain the highest levels of safety at school.
Parent Teacher Interviews
We have been holding parent teacher interviews this term to support the reporting and feedback process to parents. Thank you to those K-2 parents who engaged in interviews last week via ZOOM. The majority of interviews were conducted with minimal technical difficulties and I hope that this is the case for this week with the 3-6 interviews. We appreciate this is a new way to run interviews and are supporting staff and parents to actively engage in the process.
Kindergarten Enrolments
It is that time of the year when we begin planning for Kindergarten orientation. Due to COVID-19 our orientation programs will be slightly different this year. Information on how this may look will come home to those families involved once plans have been finalised. If you have a child or have friends who have a child who is ready to come to school in 2021, I encourage you to enrol as soon as possible. This will allow you to be well-informed about upcoming Kindergarten 2021 information as well as assisting us as a school, in our planning for 2021.
Teacher Sickness and Casual Teacher Shortage
In light of the current situation, we require any teacher who exhibits respiratory like symptoms to remain absent from school and undertake a COVID test and receive results, before their return. I would like to reassure you that we do our best to cover classes when out teachers are sick. Unfortunately, there is a shortage of casual teachers at the moment and it is affecting all schools across NSW. We will continue to minimise disruptions as best we can and we thank you for your understanding in this matter.
