Dudley Public School Newsletter

Term 4 Weeks 7 and 8

Principal’s Message

Last week we had our final Kindergarten Orientation for our 2019 students. The new students managed lunchtime in our playground with the aid of their Year 5 Buddies. I know the Buddy Program here has a positive impact on the leadership skills shown by our Year 5 students and the transition to school for our new Kindys. I look forward seeing our Year 5 students step up into the variety of leadership opportunities available to them in Year 6. This process will begin with our Leadership speeches and elections in Week 8.

As the end of the year comes to a close students are becoming very excited about the activities planned for the end of the year as a celebration of their learning. We know our students will continue to show our core values of Respect, Responsibility and Learning as the year winds down.

2018 Yearbook

The DPS 2018 Year Book is currently being compiled. Please order your copy via the School Office before Thursday, December 13 (end of Week 9). The cost is $20.

If your child has achieved success at a state level in an out-of-school activity and you would like it included in the Year Book, please email Rachel Murray the details and a photo by Thursday, December 6 (end of Week 8) at rachel.murray10@det.nsw.edu.au

The 2018 Year Book will be the last one to be printed. Next year, we aim to include more school activities and photos in our newsletters instead.

Surf Fun Safe

Our Stage 3 students had a fantastic day at Stockton Beach last Thursday at our Surf Fun Safe day. The day was run by lifesavers from Hunter Surf Lifesaving and involved our students taking part in activities such as nipper board riding, flags, wading games, surf safety discussions and ball games.

Despite the wind and dust on the day, the students had a wonderful time on the beach. Hunter Surf Lifesaving contacted the school after the event to say what amazing students we have a Dudley.

Congratulations Stage 3! You can download photos from the day here

Week 6 Award Winners

Congratulations to our recipients.

Art Club Award

Jammah Hicks received a special award for his efforts and contribution to Art Club this year. Jammah is among the many students at our school who share a passion for visual arts and he has been a great help with set-up each week.

Art Club is a wonderful initiative introduced by Alanya van de Wiel who is an art therapist and Noa and Nadav Mantel's mum.

Each Friday lunch-time, a small group of children from Stage 1 and Stage 2 have enjoyed learning about various artists and creating some fantastic masterpieces themselves. The groups have changed every 5 weeks.

A huge thank you to Alanya for volunteering so much time to our students and we are very pleased that she is looking forward to initiating even bigger and better things next year.

A huge thank you also to the Jefferson family (from Ear Nose Throat Newcastle) who have helped fund the program this year.

From the library

Can you believe how quickly this term is going?  With the end of year fast approaching it is time to search for any outstanding library books which may be hiding somewhere.  Thank you to everyone who has returned books on time, as well as those who have already found some long overdue books!

A reminder note will be sent home for books which are listed as borrowed - sometimes books can be reshelved before being scanned, or sometimes they end up in the child's classroom – please let us know if a book can’t be found.  Borrowing will cease this week for all students.

Our 2018 PRC Certificates have arrived and will be given to students by their class teachers this week, while our Gold and Platinum Awards will be given out on Presentation Day.

I am taking extended leave, so any queries can be directed to Alicia Reed, who I know will capably replace me, or to Sharon Growden, who has done an outstanding job while working in the library this year.

And so on that note, I would like to thank everyone for their continued support of all things library – and in particular to our P&C for their fundraising efforts, which I know will be put to good use next year, as our library transforms into a flexible future focused learning space, and to Susan Cowie for her very capable management of the Scholastic Book Club.

May I wish you all a very safe and happy holiday season, and of course a wonderful 2019.
