Harmony Day
Harmony Week is a time to celebrate Australian multiculturalism and is held this year from 20 to 26 March. This includes the United Nations' International Day for Elimination of Racial Discrimination and the ongoing theme is ‘everyone belongs’. This theme promotes respect for everyone from all cultural backgrounds and encourages inclusion and includes the ongoing custodians of the land on which we live, to those who have come from the many countries around the world. Havenlee School celebrated Harmony Day on Tuesday 21st March. The students and staff enjoyed dressing in orange. Each class also participated in 'Harmony Day' activities.
Havenlee 'Walk for Autism' Day
“Walk for Autism” is a charity that raises money for and awareness of people on the autism spectrum. The standard Walk for this event challenges Australians to walk 10,000 steps a day for eight days or they can 'Double their Challenge' and walk 10,000 steps a day for 16 days! Some of the staff at Havenlee School got involved and we also had the green Mufti day on Tuesday 28th March. The School raised $123.55.
Digital Devices
NSW Department of Education provides guidelines, procedures and safe and secure technology-related resources, equipment and infrastructure to help protect students from harm and create environments where students can benefit from using technology. This is represented through the ‘student use of digital devices and online services policy’.
Digital devices are defined as electronic devices that can receive, store, process and share digital information and connect to applications (apps), websites and other online services. They include desktop computers, laptops, tablets, smartwatches, smartphones and other devices.
As per Department policy, primary school (and SSPs) students must not use digital devices during class, at recess and at lunch unless approved by a Principal or teacher. Exemptions may be granted by a principal or teacher, including allowing students to use a device for an educational purpose, or as part of a reasonable adjustment for student learning and wellbeing.
At present no student at the school has permission to use a tablet, mobile phone or a smartwatch to communicate to any other person or capture images during class time, at recess or at lunch.

The Havenlee School Annual Report for 2022 is now finalised. It will be published on the website shortly.
Easter Holidays and Term 2
I hope everyone enjoys their Easter holidays.
During the holidays the Blue Gum classroom will be gutted and receive a roof replacement, so hopefully when we come back it will be ready to be used again.
Students come back to school on Wednesday 26th April (day after ANZAC Day). Staff will be having a Staff Development Day on Monday 24th April. On the staff development day, all staff will be participating in mandatory Anaphylaxis and CPR training, we will also be finishing the last modules of the Safety Interventions training that we started at the beginning of the year.
We are hoping that the pool will be ready for use at the beginning of next term. You will receive a note home early next term when the program is going to start back. Intensive swimming will be a priority.
