Monday March 14th 2022 Term 1 Week 8

From the Principal

Student Success:

We have had lots of student success over the past two weeks. Congratulations to our swimmers who competed at the regional carnival. Layla and Liam will now compete at the state championships. Lottie and Sonny just missed out on qualifying for the state carnival. A fantastic result!

All students participated in Clean Up Australia Day last week and learnt about how to help our environment during the week. The day was a great success. (Link to photos)

Congratulations to Ruby who has qualified for the regional netball trials, Charlie and Jayarna who qualified for the regional touch trials, and Malachi who has qualified for the regional basketball trials. Fantastic sports in our school!

Year 6 attended the Young Leaders Day in Sydney last week and had an amazing day listening to inspiring speakers on how to be a great leader. All students were great ambassadors for our school.

Mural:

Our Aboriginal mural is now complete and hanging in our playground. It looks absolutely wonderful and the students are enjoying looking at the design and discussing the meaning of the images.  (Link to photos)

Canteen upgrade:

We are lucky enough to be having our canteen fully upgraded in the school holidays. The canteen will have new counters, cabinetry and counter shutters installed. As a result, the canteen will not be open on the last day of this term and during the first week of next term.

Year 4 and 6 Check In Assessment:

Our Year 4 and 6 students will complete the Check In Assessment for literacy and numeracy next week. This assessment is a great way for students and teachers to see how students are progressing and plan for how to support their learning in the future. The assessment is conducted online.

Mini Swimming Carnival:

A reminder that our mini swimming carnival for year 3 – 6 is coming up later this term. This carnival is for everyone and a great way for students to participate and earn house points for their house.  Please return permission notes as they are now overdue.

COVID:

There continues to be a significant number of covid cases in our school community. Please continue to be safe, RAT test when needed and report all cases to NSW Health.

Term 2 Staff Development Day Reminder:

A reminder that there will be TWO Staff Development Days at the beginning of next term for our school- Tuesday 26 April and Wednesday 27 April. There will be no classes for students on these days. This is so teachers can participate in training with the University of NSW in catering for students who are gifted and have high potential.  Our OoSHC will be open for student bookings.

School Mention in Legislative Assembly:

I received a letter from Member for Charlestown, Jodie Harrison this week with a Community Recognition Statement that was read in the NSW Legislative Assembly. The statement outlined the win for our sensory garden at the end of last year.  A wonderful achievement for the school.

Out of Uniform Day

We will be having an Out of Uniform Day for all students on Wednesday 16th March 2022.  We ask that students bring in a chocolate as a fine for being Out of Uniform.

These chocolates will be used on the Lob-a-Choc Stall at the Year 6 Mini Fete later this term. Students throw a coin and if it lands on the chocolate, they win it! All chocolates will be used as prizes on this day.

Year 6 students will be collecting these chocolates from each classroom on the day of the fundraiser.

Grandparents Day & Hat Parade

It's been a while, so we are very excited to warmly welcome Grandparents back onto our school grounds for a picnic with the students.  Save the date of Friday April 8th! This will also be the date of our Hat Parade for 2022, so parent/carers will be invited to view the parade which will follow lunch.  Further details will be sent home on a note soon.

P&C Easter Raffle & Hot Cross Buns

Notes have been sent home with students for the P&C annual Hot Cross Bun fundraiser through Bakers Delight and also for the upcoming Easter Raffle which is always a bit hit with students.  Additional raffle tickets can be collected from the office if required.  Follow this Link for the Hot Cross Bun order form.
