Term 4 Week 4 - 6 November 2020

Dates for the Diary

Principal's Message

Dear Parents, Carers and Community,

Spooky Friday

What a “Spooktacular” day we all experienced last Friday. Thank you to all our parents/carers for their efforts in preparing their children in costume for the day. We had so much fun and there was a buzz of excitement in the playground, the corridors and the classrooms throughout the day. Even the teachers went to lots of effort with their costumes. Thank you to the many students who made a gold coin contribution. We raised $236.30 which will go towards purchasing more material for the wooden teaching stations in the Side Garden.

Changes to School Development Days in 2021

The Department of Education recently notified all public schools that there will be a change to when the school development days will occur in 2021. The reason for this change is to allow schools to provide impactful professional learning over 2 days at the start of the year, particularly in light of the new planning cycle and the development of the school’s new Strategic Improvement Plan. In 2021, school development days are scheduled for the following dates:

Term 1

·         Wednesday 27th January

·         Thursday 28th January

Years 1 – 6 will return to school on Friday 29th January. More details to come on the start date for our kindy students.

Term 2

·         Monday 19th April

K-6 students return to school on Tuesday 20th April

Term 3

·         Monday 12th July

K-6 students return to school on Tuesday 13th July

Term 4

·         Friday 17th December

Last day for students is Thursday 16th July

I hope these details assist our families with any forward planning required for 2021.

External Validation Process

As mentioned last term, our school has been involved in a rigorous process of self-evaluation and assessment as part of the External Validation process. This provides an assurance to the school and system that the progress being made aligns with the expectations articulated in the School Excellence Framework (SEF). Once in a five-year cycle, every school undergoes an External Validation of the evidence of their school’s self-assessment of progress by an independent panel. Our External Validation process will take place next week on Thursday 12th November, 2020.

The staff as a whole have been working exceptionally hard in preparation for our External Validation process. We look forward to receiving the panel’s feedback and sharing this with you in the coming weeks.

NAIDOC Week

Next week we celebrate NAIDOC (National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observation Committee) Week, recognising and celebrating our First Nations people and the ancient history of this country. Every class will engage in lessons to raise awareness of our Aboriginal heritage. Please take the time to discuss this all important topic with your children.

Remembrance Day

On Wednesday 11th November, we as a school will get the opportunity to commemorate Remembrance Day at our newly designed memorial area in the Side Garden, next to our very own Lone Pine. All classes will visit this area, lay their poppy and remember our fallen Australians.

A visit to 4/3S

I had the wonderful opportunity of visiting 4/3S this week. I was so impressed by the beautiful art work displayed across EVERY wall in the room and how proud the students are of their work. Congratulations 4/3S! Keep up the great work!

Book Week Raffle

Children’s Book Council of Australia celebrated Book Week from the 17 to 23rd October this year.

The School Library held a raffle for each class during Book Week and the children were able to choose a book as a prize.

The winners from each class are as follows:

Planning for 2021

We need assistance in our planning for next year. The school's staffing entitlements and funding are dependent upon student population at the start of 2021.

If you are moving or going on an extended family holiday and your child/ren will not be starting at the commencement of the new school year (on Friday 29 January), please notify the school office as soon as possible, preferably in writing or via the school's email address, concord-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au

2021 Kindergarten Enrolments

Applications are now being accepted for Kindergarten 2021. If your child turns 5 before July 31, 2021 they are eligible to start school next year. Enrolment forms are available to download from our school website and can be emailed to the school along with a scan of your child's birth certificate, immunisation record and proof of your home address. Once visitors are allowed back on site we will ask you to bring in the originals of all documents to be sighted by our office staff.

Email the completed form to the school email address  concord-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au

From the Office

Entering onto the School Grounds During School Hours

Please ensure that you come into the office, if you need to give something to your child, or if they have forgotten to bring something to school. The office staff are more than happy to pass the item on.

If you need to see your child or pass on a message to them, the office staff can help with that too. We encourage parents to allow us to pass on messages during break times, so that your child's learning is not interrupted. All visitors must sign-in at the office and wear a visitor's sticker. This is to ensure the wellbeing and safety of all.

Payment

When making a payment online you can only pay up to 3 DAYS before the due date of the payment. This is due to online transactions taking 48 hours to process.

Other payment methods such as cash or cheque can also be sent to the front office and placed in the blue box labelled “School Post”.

Please note that we do not accept online payment for uniform or canteen orders. Please see the uniform or canteen order  form for payment details.

Permission Notes

If you have more than one child we need to have a note for each child, not all on one note please.

Change of Contact/Address details

Please inform the office immediately if you have changed your contact or address details, so we can contact you in case of an emergency.

Bicycle and Scooter Guidelines

If you give permission for your child to ride a bicycle or scooter to and/or from school, and store it on the school grounds, please carefully read and sign the ‘Bicycle and Scooter Guidelines’ document (obtained from the Front Office). These signed forms are to be returned to the office. Once we have received the signed documentation, the school will record that your child has permission from you to ride to school. Please see Mrs Vermiglio or the office for details.

Lost Property

All lost property is now kept in the office.

All students have been informed of this and are all reminded to put their name on their hats, jackets, jumpers, all lunch/recess containers and drink bottles.
