Reminders –

Lateness to school

I had the pleasure of reading the many school reports and seeing the achievements of the students as a school. All reports should be safely home and if you have not received your child’s report please advise your classroom teacher about this.

There is a concern about the amount of children who are partially late to school, as well as leave early before the scheduled times. We understand that sometimes your child may be late but at times we do see patterns beginning which can affect your child’s learning. At times in the morning there can be more than 30 students arriving late which is not acceptable, and it also affects parents waiting to make a payment etc. as well as takes the time of the administration staff in order to process the late arrivals. Classroom Literacy lessons begin as soon as possible after the 9 am morning assembly, and we ask that you ensure that your children are at school by this time.

Approaching the school

All schools have a similar policy relating to approaching the school. This is a reminder that all parents / families members who wish to approach a teacher or leave a message / item for their child must report to the front office.

The DOJO message application is used generally for reminders for classes, and should not be used to pass on messages to staff requesting a child be sent to the office during the day for appointments etc. Quite often teachers will not check this application until later in the day, and nor while teaching. This communication needs to come through the front office as well as classroom teacher to ensure the child has been entered as leaving early or arriving late to school.

Public Speaking Competition Years 5-6

This year our school has again entered the Central Coast Public Speaking Competition.

Congratulations must go to all the students in Years 5-6 who reached the school finals of the Central Coast Public Speaking Competition this term. The prepared speeches were all of such a high standard this year, that it was difficult to separate the top speakers.  It was great to see even more improvement from the Stage 3 semi-final to the school finals as students aimed to make the final a thriller. Well done Stage 3 finalists!

The Stage 3 finalists were: Aleeyah, Ryan, Mia, Keeley, Violet, Cassidy, Katelyn, Remy, Ella, Damien and Mackenzie.

All these students should be congratulated for their hard work in the competition. It was a pleasure to listen to such wonderful speakers.

Our winners were from Stage 3 were Violet and Remy. These students will go on to represent Wyong Public School at the District finals on the 15th August at our school. It is very exciting as we are hosting the District finals this year. We wish these students all the best on the day and I’m sure they will do our school proud.

Congratulations once again to all the students who participated in the competition. I’d like to thank Mrs Whitehouse for her wonderful assistance in the Stage 3 competition, as well as the Stage 3 helpers for being such terrific hosts and time keepers. The class teachers also need to be commended for doing such a terrific job in preparing the students so well for the competition.

Stage 2 Public Speaking Finals

Congratulations to all finalists that participated in our Stage 2 Public Speaking Finals on Friday 28th June. All speeches were presented to a high standard with enthusiasm which made them highly interesting and engaging for the audience. Mr M and Mrs Lane adjudicated the event and had the rather hard task in deciding our stage winners.

Congratulations to our runner up, Thomas D and our winner, Abby McC . We look forward to seeing you progress to the regional finals.

We would also like to thank parents and family members that came to show their support on the day.

iCentre

Scholastic Book Club

I would like to acknowledge the wonderful work that Kerri Beavan has done over the past 20 years with our school’s Scholastic Book Club and Book Fair. She very kindly gave up her time regularly to organise and implement these programs in our school to which we are all very grateful for. Kerri had a passion for children’s literature and had a personal philosophy of every child being afforded the opportunity to have a book in their hands at home. Kerri was one of our school’s lollipop ladies, while students were waiting to cross the road, she often had conversations with them about what they were reading at school and at home. She always knew what  books the children were reading and purchasing through Book Club. We will miss her extensive knowledge of children’s books and these conversations.

5G Bottle Top Collection

Well done WPS! We have now collected over 2000 bottle tops, which equates to 4 prosthetic hands for children.

This is an incredible achievement in such a short time. It is very exciting to think how many hands we could create throughout the year so keep collecting.

I have now got an official collection site on the Central Coast, where trucks will come to transport the bottle tops to Victoria. Spread the word amongst your families, friends and neighbours and keep collecting!

6F enjoyed helping to wash, count and sort the bottle tops this week, before creating an amazing artwork using the bottle tops. Thank you 6F.

New Sign-in Process

A new sign-in process is being trialled at the school to improve the safety of our students and staff and ensure that all Department of Education policies and procedures are followed.

All visitors to the school needing to come on site are required to sign-in at the office.

Anyone needing to come on site please bring PHOTO ID with you the next time you visit to register your details (even if the school has previously cited it). All future sign-ins will then be simplified.

When to move a child from a booster to adult seat?

Every child is different, but as a general guide children should only move to an adult seatbelt when they're 145cm or taller, and no longer fit in their booster seat. This could be anytime between Kindergarten to possibly Year 2?  Help your families make this decision using the five-step test to assess whether their child is ready.
