Term 2 Week 10: 27th June - 1st July 2022

Principal's Blog

Welcome to Week 10 Term 2

It is hard to believe that we are halfway through 2022. It has been a wonderful term and one full of academic and sporting achievements. Our half-yearly reports will be sent home this Wednesday 29th June. If you have any questions regarding your child’s report, I encourage you to make contact with your child’s classroom teacher early in Term 3.

Miss Ballard and Miss Britt leave us at the end of this term to complete their final internship for their teaching degrees. We wish them all the best for their future teaching career and thank them for being part of the Caves Beach staff.

To our wonderful students and families, we wish you a relaxing and enjoyable holiday. Please remember road and bike safety rules and keep safe. We look forward to seeing you next term.

2023 Kindergarten Enrolments

We are now taking enrolments for Kindergarten 2023. If you know of families in our Caves Beach zone who have a child starting Kindergarten next year, please advise them to enrol online or contact our school office to start the enrolment process. It is imperative that we have our Kindergarten numbers as early as possible to plan for classes K-6 for the following year.

Beanie for Brain Cancer

The Year 6 Parliament are fundraising for the Mark Hughes Foundation on Tuesday 28th  June. We are asking for all students, teachers and community members to put on a beanie and help us fundraise for this worthy cause. The fundraising will go towards brain cancer research and supporting brain cancer patients and their families. Wear your beanie and bring a gold coin (or note) donation to school on Tuesday.

Teacher Strike

The NSW Teachers Federation has directed its membership to take industrial action in the form of a 24-hour strike on Thursday 30 June 2022. As a result of the strike, we will still be open but will be providing minimal student supervision on this date. Minimal supervision means onsite teaching and learning continues, however, temporary class structures and a modified timetable are required to meet safety and supervision requirements.

Due to the very limited staff on site on this day, normal lessons will not go ahead.

The department has been negotiating with the NSW Teachers Federation since October last year to reach an agreement on the new Teachers Award. The department are considering this change in relation to the Teachers Award, which is next before the Industrial Relations Commission (IRC) on 29 June 2022. Dates have been reserved in October 2022 for the Teachers Award matter to be arbitrated by a full bench of the IRC, and I am hopeful for a swift outcome after this process.

Thank you for your support and understanding during this short period of disruption.

Class of the Week

KT

Over the past five weeks, all classes in K-2 have been fortunate enough to undertake weekly soccer skills lessons with Mattiese Loretan. Mattiese is a past student who is currently studying teaching abroad and is home for a short break. As soccer is a huge part of her life, Mattiese has been thrilled to share the joy with the kids! She has really enjoyed teaching the fundamental development skills for soccer and the kids have had a ball (pardon the pun) learning from her.
Thanks Mattiese!! from KT

You all represented the school proudly and fairly, well done.

Art Club

Art Club for this semester finished up this week. We completed 2 more projects that we've been working on over the last few weeks. We continued using our weaving skills to make woven butterflies, which were very cute! We then made hanging mobile's using sticks from the garden, wool, foam cut outs and feathers.

Well done to all the students who committed their time to coming to Art Club once a week. Look out early next term for an expression of interest note to join the Semester 2 Art Club.

Stage Public Speaking Competitions

Congratulations to all of the students who competed in the Stage public speaking competitions last Thursday. The calibre of the speakers was extremely high and all of the teachers and audience members were suitably impressed.

Premier's Spelling Bee

Two of the top spellers from each class competed in the Spelling Bee final on Friday. The spellers made it through round after round, with the words becoming increasingly difficult. Every finalist did an outstanding job and should be proud of their efforts.

Congratulations Luisa and Jack who are the Stage winners!

Grow Your Mind

Another important Grow Your Mind concept to look after our mental health

is Shark vs. Dolphin thoughts

We are faced with many situations each day and it is vital we use our

OWL and ELEPHANT to help us make wise decisions.

For example, you make a mistake on your work.

A shark thought is a harmful thought about yourself. You can challenge this thinking with dolphin thoughts. These are an optimistic way of thinking.

“Everyone makes mistakes, we learn from our mistakes”

“I have the confidence to try again”

“I can ask someone for help”

If you have a Shark thought how will you turn it into a Dolphin thought?

Kinder 2023

Is your child starting Kindergarten in 2023? Do you know someone whose child is starting school next year?

Please let us know! Contact the office on 49711838. Enrolment packs will be sent out early next Term.

Band News

What a great term band has had!!

Senior band will end the term with a performance at Celebration Assembly this Friday morning and Junior band will aim to perform in the first half of term 3.
Since our move the music room this past few weeks I have noticed an increase in the amount of band helpers when it comes to setting up and packing up the rehearsal space, both junior and senior band members have shown great teamwork and assistance to others in all areas, the flow on of this is a supportive and fun environment for all students.
