Welcome to Week 10 Term 2
It is hard to believe that we are halfway through 2022. It has been a wonderful term and one full of academic and sporting achievements. Our half-yearly reports will be sent home this Wednesday 29th June. If you have any questions regarding your child’s report, I encourage you to make contact with your child’s classroom teacher early in Term 3.
Miss Ballard and Miss Britt leave us at the end of this term to complete their final internship for their teaching degrees. We wish them all the best for their future teaching career and thank them for being part of the Caves Beach staff.
To our wonderful students and families, we wish you a relaxing and enjoyable holiday. Please remember road and bike safety rules and keep safe. We look forward to seeing you next term.
2023 Kindergarten Enrolments
We are now taking enrolments for Kindergarten 2023. If you know of families in our Caves Beach zone who have a child starting Kindergarten next year, please advise them to enrol online or contact our school office to start the enrolment process. It is imperative that we have our Kindergarten numbers as early as possible to plan for classes K-6 for the following year.
Beanie for Brain Cancer
The Year 6 Parliament are fundraising for the Mark Hughes Foundation on Tuesday 28th June. We are asking for all students, teachers and community members to put on a beanie and help us fundraise for this worthy cause. The fundraising will go towards brain cancer research and supporting brain cancer patients and their families. Wear your beanie and bring a gold coin (or note) donation to school on Tuesday.
Teacher Strike
The NSW Teachers Federation has directed its membership to take industrial action in the form of a 24-hour strike on Thursday 30 June 2022. As a result of the strike, we will still be open but will be providing minimal student supervision on this date. Minimal supervision means onsite teaching and learning continues, however, temporary class structures and a modified timetable are required to meet safety and supervision requirements.
Due to the very limited staff on site on this day, normal lessons will not go ahead.
The department has been negotiating with the NSW Teachers Federation since October last year to reach an agreement on the new Teachers Award. The department are considering this change in relation to the Teachers Award, which is next before the Industrial Relations Commission (IRC) on 29 June 2022. Dates have been reserved in October 2022 for the Teachers Award matter to be arbitrated by a full bench of the IRC, and I am hopeful for a swift outcome after this process.
Thank you for your support and understanding during this short period of disruption.
