Welcome Back to Term 2
Welcome back to Term 2. I trust the Easter break allowed you to take some time out to be refreshed and ready for the ten weeks that is Term 2. I received news over the past few weeks of folks, with connections to OLSH, passing away and facing serious medical conditions which require treatment. My thoughts and prayers go out to those members of our OLSH Community who are experiencing testing times.
It was good to see a good number of students and staff return to school on Monday. Some of our students and staff have had delays returning for a number of reasons. However, we trust they will be back with us soon.
Contact Details
As we commence Term 2 I would like to remind Parents and Guardians of the need to keep the school informed of your contact details. If your phone contact, email or emergency contacts provided previously have changed I ask that you communicate this to the school, by a note, email or calling at the school reception. We do from time to time have trouble contacting parents and guardians as contacts have changed.
School Fees Reminder
As communicated previously, the school is reliant on a steady cash flow to keep the school operating efficiently. A reminder that the terms of payment for school fees are; Early Bird payment, Full Year payment or payment by instalments. Instalments are three payments made before the second Friday in Terms 1, 2 and 3. Please work towards meeting these due dates as OLSH staff have better things to be doing than spending time debt collecting. Thank you in advance!
Looking forward to the Term ahead. Should you have any questions or concerns relating to the school, please contact the Reception and they will be able to direct your enquiry to the appropriate staff member.
Former Principal and Head of Primary Visit
In the last week of Term 1, the OLSH community was excited to welcome back former principal, Mrs Jo Martin and Head of Primary, Ms Grace Savitas to the school.
Throughout the week both staff and students benefited from a range of sessions presented by Mrs Martin and Ms Savitas.
Mrs Martin worked extensively with the Year 10 and 12 English students in preparation for their written expression exams, while Ms Savitas modelled a range of Early Childhood teaching strategies to those teachers working in this sector.
Mrs Martin also worked with the school’s early career teachers, modelling teaching strategies, observing their lessons and providing feedback on their classroom practices.
In addition to this Mrs Martin led after school sessions for the leadership team and a teacher session on developing assessment.
On the student free day on the last day of term, Mrs Martin led a whole day of professional development which supported OLSH teachers in designing and developing lesson plans, high order thinking activities, checking for student understanding and constructing rubrics (marking guides) for assessment.
This professional learning was kindly supported by a large range of teaching resources donated to the school by Mr Gerard Alford of ITC publications.
Throughout the week, Mrs Martin and Ms Savitas also joined in a variety of OLSH activities and enjoyed reuniting with staff, students, families and friends.
The OLSH community is extremely grateful to Mrs Martin and Ms Savitas for sharing their expertise and their contributions throughout the week - we are looking forward to their next visit!
