A Message From Mr Geerligs

Dear Parents Families and Friends

This Sunday is a special day to remember the Fathers who are present in our lives, who are not with us anymore and those people who are just like a father to us. It is always important to remember and to pray for the special people around us.

By celebrating a Mothers’ Day and a Fathers’ Day, it helps us stop and remember these important people in our lives. Here is a special Prayer for Fathers:

Dear God

Bless all the fathers in the world.

We ask that you guide them to be good role models

and loving to their children.

We also ask that You

help them to be a father like You are.

Give them grace and patience

to handle situations in a loving way.

Amen

The School Fathers’ Day stall will be held on the morning of Wednesday 28th August.

Mr Mark Geerligs    Principal

Grand Opening at Katoomba RSL

Saturday 24th August 2019 - What a great historical   moment for Katoomba when the new RSL was officially opened.

Our Federal, State and Local government representatives were all there for this occasion. St Canice’s was proudly represented by 15 of our students. Our students sang beautifully the Totem Song. There were many comments from the guests about the significance of our song.

Then the RSL president Mr Brian Turner made a special mention of students in his speech.

Back in 2017, Stage 2 students (now Stage 3) presented Mr Turner with their idea of what the new RSL should look like. Mr Turner not only thanked St Canice’s and Mrs Byrnes for this initiative, he even read out part of Claudia and Airlie’s proposal for the RSL - “Lots of poppies everywhere”. Mr Turner said that the architect took this idea and there are indeed, poppies evident in the new RSL. Well done girls, S3 and Mrs Byrnes.

Voice of Youth

On Monday our Stage 3 students went to St Thomas’ in Springwood for the Cluster Voice of Youth competition.

The 3 students who were chosen to represent our school were Lulu, Emma and Patrick with Sam as our reserve. There were 12 students from St Finbars, St Thomas Aquinas, OLN and St Canice’s who presented their speeches for the Cluster final.

Only one student is chosen to go to the semi-finals.

Congratulations to Patrick who won the Voice of Youth Cluster and is off to the semi-final on Monday the 16th of September.

Congratulations to Emma who won the Social Justice award.

What an Outstanding Result !!!!

Attendance Matters

Our school community is warmly invited to take a peek at our latest creative project!

With the help of our very talented students, I have created a mural located upstairs in the open area. This mural is an ongoing project that students across our school community can contribute to.

The benefits of art for children include the promotion of creativity, confidence, determination, patience and problem solving. Art also helps emotional, mental and psychological development.

If your child is feeling anxious in the morning about attending school, spending some time working on the mural can help them express their feelings in a multidimensional way and prepare them for the day ahead. Likewise, students who may need some time out during the day can also benefit from the creative process of contributing to the mural.

Thank you to all of our students who have already contributed to our mural, helping us to celebrate the arts as one community.

Miss Elizabeth

Attendance Family Liaison Officer.

Congratulations to St Canice’s Staff

In 2019 all schools in Parramatta Diocese engage in the process of Peer Review to present curriculum documentation to their peers in a professional learning context.

This model of Peer Review has been approved by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) for the registration period   (2015-2019).

Last Tuesday St Canice’s took part in this Peer Review process focussing on Stage 2 - English and Maths.

The Review was successful and was an opportunity for St Canice’s to celebrate the great work done by the staff in providing a quality Catholic education to the students from the upper Blue Mountains.

Congratulation to all the staff at St Canice’s.
