Reynella Primary School Grapevine

Term 4, Week 10 | 2022

From the Leadership Team

It is difficult to believe that the school year is about to end; it doesn’t seem so very long ago that we were navigating online learning at the beginning of the year due to the COVID situation. I think it is fair to say that we are all physically and emotionally feeling the effects of enduring such a challenging year and each and every one of us is ready for a well-deserved break.

Despite the challenges, the Reynella School Community has pulled together to make 2022 a memorable one and there is much to celebrate. As teachers were busily writing end of year reports they were reflecting on the progress our students have made with their learning despite the disruptions. There were many opportunities for our students to transfer their skills and abilities’ and shine beyond the classroom and our Communication Action Team have developed a Student Grapevine, written by them, which shows many of the highlights throughout the year. This will be published through Skoolbag on the last day of term.

The end of the year always signals the time when we need to farewell some staff members. To our year 6 cohort and graduating class, it has been wonderful to watch you grow and develop in to successful learners and people over these last seven years. We wish you all the best as you enter this next stage of your lives; high school. To the other students and families who are moving on, we thank you for choosing our school and hope your next placements are fulfilling and rewarding.

We are very fortunate this year that we will be maintaining a stable staff for 2023, despite dropping to 18 classes. However some there are changes to our staffing for 2023;

o   Miss Amy Sheppard and Mrs Natalie Sarris have been appointed as permanent teachers of Reynella PS.

o   Mr Tom Clayton will be taking on the role of Autism Inclusion Teacher each Tuesday and Ms Georgia Frangoulis will take his class on that day.

o   With the return of Madame Marin, we are sad to say goodbye to Madame Silvi Badgery-Parker as she has shown such a love and passion for the teaching of French over the last two years.

o   Ms Michelle Napier, who has worked in F8 all year, as well as being a regular TRT, is moving on to Marion PS. Ms Napier has been a consistent face across our school these last years and her infectious smile will be missed.

o   Mr Marty Czerwinskis joined out staff at the beginning of the year, working in a different role, one which he has undertaken with great skill and compassion and many of our students have had the opportunity to be supported by him. We will miss his flexibility and kindness but he will be moving on to Flaxmill PS.

o   Ms Tracey McNeil has taken on the Finance Officer role these last 12 months, as well as other duties. She has also supported our diabetes students throughout the year. We are so grateful that she has undertaken this role with such skill and professionalism. Ms Debbie Adamson will take over this position in 2023, she comes to us from Whyalla.

o   Sharon Kasteliz has been appointed to Seaford Secondary School on a permanent basis. Sharon was at Reynella PS for 11 years until the end of 2021 and was an integral member of our Front Office team. She supported a myriad of students when they turned up to first aid, sometimes needing comfort while waiting for ambulances. She managed our school’s Finances and Uniforms amongst the many different things she did to make sure the school ran smoothly. Sharon will be greatly missed by us all but we know she is loving her new role which is much closer to home for her.

o   Karina Romanovskis was a long standing teacher here at Reynella PS and loved by all the children who were lucky enough to be in her class. Always calm and dedicated to her craft, she went out of her way to support everyone with their learning and was never afraid to try new things. She always made her students feel important and cared for. Behind the scenes, Karina drove out literacy improvement agenda working alongside teachers to support them with new initiatives. She was the driving force behind our Social Committee and organised many memorable events for us. Her passion for teaching, sense of fun and high level of commitment will be greatly missed as she has now made the decision to retire; moving on to the next phase of her life’s journey with her husband Valdis. We wish her many great adventures as she continues to travel around Australia and the world, and sincerely thank her for all that she contributed to the Reynella PS community.

o   Mademoiselle Roisin Somers will be on maternity leave for 2023 and we wish her the very best as she tackles motherhood for the first time. In addition to this change in her life, she also married her long-time partner Nathan last week and when she returns will be Roisin Dennis.

o   Joining her in the newly married department will be Georgia Phillips who married her fiancé Josh last Saturday. Her new name will be Mrs Georgia Penney.

As the year draws to a close we need to thank you for all your support throughout what has been a difficult year. Once again we have shown our resilience and strength as a community to overcome obstacles and maintain our collective focus on supporting our students to be successful students, citizens and people.

Enjoy the break and we will see you again in 2023 for the first day of term Monday January 30, 2023.

Merry Christmas from B6

Sports Day 2022

2022 has been a turbulent year for many reasons, with the weather being no exception. With a bleak forecast for our Week 3 Sports Day, we made the difficult decision to postpone. What a great decision it turned out to be! Perfect conditions greeted us for our rescheduled Week 6 Sports Day, which was the prelude to an even more amazing day. We could not be prouder of our Reynella students for the effort and the good sportsmanship displayed on the day, it made for a wonderful event for all involved. A big thank you to all the volunteers that helped as you walked around to your child’s events and helped on all the day’s stalls. To the Sports Day Committee, Sports Day Captains, Mikal and Kay, this day would not have been possible without the hours of hard work from all of you.

Every year we trial new ideas to continue to make Reynella’s Sports Day exciting and as inclusive as possible for all involved. This year we trialled the break station, which involved students having the option to sit-out of a few events they do not enjoy. For the most part, this was a great success with the students. We will tinker with this idea a bit more for next year by bringing in stricter guidelines for the number of events they can opt out of. If you have any feedback on any part of the day, please feel free to message your ideas through to your classroom teacher on Seesaw, which can then be passed onto the Sports Day Committee.

Lastly, the biggest congratulations goes to Reynell – coming away with their first overall victory in many years! It did not come easy though, with one of the closest finishes I have seen in a long time! Great work Reynella!

Wellbeing

Hello dear Reynella families, Well, here we are at the end of another school year.  It has been a mixture of ups and downs but mainly ups.  I would like to thank Belle Padgett for taking over for me when I was on unexpected leave for the first two term of this year.  She did an amazing job and I am extremely grateful.  Thank you to Sarah Mewett our PCW , Sarah is a positive light and the students love working with her. I have included a list of agencies that provide either cheap or free food or groceries should families need them over the holidays. Have a restful break and enjoy lots of family time.  I look forward to working with you again in 2023. Cheers, Fiona

Canteen News

Volunteers Needed

Our canteen staff would love to speak to any parents or grandparents who would like to consider volunteering in 2023.

Bec K (Canteen Manager) is happy to answer any questions you might have and discuss options for days and times you are available to volunteer.

They are very flexible with times: if you can only volunteer for 1 day a fortnight or month, that would be a big help to assist our staff to prepare food for our hungry students.

Updating QKR and Skoolbag

With your child starting a new class in 2023, before returning to school you will need to update your child/ren's profile in QKR and update the class and year level in Skoolbag for each of your children. This will ensure that you receive all important information for 2023.

Skoolbag is the main platform for communication at Reynella Primary School so we would love all parents and carer's to be on board.  If you need any assistance with logging on or joining the relevant groups, please come into the front office or email us at DL.0379.INFO@SCHOOLS.SA.EDU.AU.

After School Sport

After School Sport 2023

After School Sport Commitment to Play forms for 2023 students are now available to register your child's interest to participate in 2023. The school will register teams for: socccer, basketball and netball.

If you would like to register your child for an After School Sport team, please submit the relevant Skoolbag eForm.

One eForm per player, per sport.

We will accept forms early next year, but to avoid your child missing out, we suggest you submit the eForm asap. Once each team is full, a waiting list will be established.

No payment is required at this stage. Parents will be asked for a non-refundable $20 deposit at the start of next year to secure their child's position in a team.

Invoices will be produced prior to each season commencing and payment will be due by the second game.

More information and the eForm can be found on Skoolbag.
