Principal's Report

Tuesday 24th May 2022

Hello everyone,

Thank you for your support and understanding last week as we managed some staffing issues. Things are a bit better this week and hopefully will be fully settled in the next couple of weeks.

On the weekend our school was used as a polling place. Thank you to the parents who gave their time to get the grounds looking lovely, to the children who all helped pick up leaves to ensure no one slipped as they walked through to vote, and to the parents who manned the Democratic Sausage Sizzle during the day. Our FOS members worked hard to organise everything for the BBQ. There were two wonderful benefits from Saturday. Firstly our community was able to reconnect with our wider community and show off our lovely school, and secondly the BBQ raised almost $1000 for the school.

I am grateful to you all!

This week our Grades 4-6 students will participate in the Attitudes to School Survey. This survey is conducted each year by the Department of Education and Training (DET) to ensure that our students are happy and engaged in their learning. The results are sent back to the school to help us identify areas for improvement.

This term, each class will be working with our art teacher Rowena to design a panel to be placed around the new school generator. There will be 6 panels – one for each class. I am looking forward to seeing their work in the school grounds.

Last Friday, Corinne Shaddock from the Gisborne Gazette came to school to work with a group of our Grade 6 students to “Cut and Paste” (put together) this month’s Gazette. Corinne really enjoyed working with our students and came to tell me how lovely they are.

On Wednesday 1st June, we will be holding an open morning at the school. The school will be open from 9.15am – 11.00am and then from 11.30am-12.30pm. We would love you to come in and visit our classrooms to see our learning in action. You will have a chance to see the work the children do in the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, and also the literacy and numeracy that is embedded within this. Please just drop in at any time during the open session and stay as long as you would like.

Have a lovely week.

Kind regards

Trish

Foundation Japanese Web Link Up

As part of our PYP program, the Foundation children linked up with the Kindergarten class at Shinagawa International School in Tokyo, Japan, via WebEx. Mrs. Bowen and Ms Sherry met a week before to organise the meeting. They wanted to know about our Australian animals and all things Australian. They were also keen to learn about our Kimochi program and our school, so we prepared and shared this information with them. We asked them about their native animals, their school and their Inquiry units and they shared one of their portfolios with us. There were lots of similarities such as being a PYP school, they are 5 and 6 years old (but call their class Kindergarten) and their transport is similar. There are differences also such as they are almost at the end of their school year and we are nearing the middle, their school is in the city and ours is in the country, and most of their children speak 2 or even 3 languages fluently. It was a great experience. We followed it up by researching Japan and making a poster about their country.

French News

This term the Years 3 to 6 have the opportunity to participate in the Berthe Mouchette Competition run by the Alliance Francaise de Melbourne. Students learn a French poem and I will film them reciting it and send the video to the Alliance Francaise for judging. Permission notes will be sent out soon.

There is no cost for the students as I have secured funding through the Association of French Teachers Victoria for the enrolment.

If you would like to support your children at home and help them learn their chosen poem, the link to access the poems, both the text and recordings, is:  https://www.afmelbourne.com.au/schools-and-teachers/bmc/info/poems/

Bonne chance!

Grade 4/5 Update

The Grade 4/5 class have been learning about holistic health, including physical, mental, spiritual and social health. This week we have been learning mindful practices such as meditation to support our mind health and build healthy life longs habits. Below are some pictures of the class implementing their learning and putting it all into practice.

Sport Update

This week in sport our students have been learning the game of netball. This is a non contact ball sport that is played by both boys and girls, and is a very popular winter sport. Below are some pictures of our Grade 2 students working on their practical skills by fine tuning their chest and shoulder passes.

Neon Disco

It’s Neon Disco Time!

This widely loved event is only THREE sleeps away.

There will be spectacular dance tunes from our very own DJ Dan Berger, drinks and hot food, a photo booth, face-painting and a small goodie bag with party treats for everyone.

Entry to this FOS event is exclusive to MMPS students (no siblings please), and all participants will receive an entry wristband in advance. This will speed up entry times and help get the disco started!

To ensure your child/ren receive their wristband, please make payment via Qkr! And return your form ASAP.

Please also be reminded to contact the school on 5426 1446 to report absences as early as possible.

Sushi

Thank you to everyone that has jumped on board with purchasing Sushi.  Sushi Mondays have proved to be been very popular throughout the school.

Family Statements

Statements will be sent home this week.  If you have any queries please contact the office.

You are also welcomed to email myself amy.crosbie@education.vic.gov.au.

Lost Property

We have several lost property items at the office, un-named.  If your child has misplaced uniform items, please help yourself to check the lost property bucket.
