Principals Report

Dear Parents,

Ride to School (with Mr Forrest) Day

This Friday is national ride to school day.  I encourage all students to ride, scoot or walk to school on Friday this week, the 19th of March to increase our collective daily exercise and get some fresh Macedon air.   For those families who would like to ride to school with me, I will meet you down at Tony Clarke at 8:30am and will be riding up to school via Bruce Street, though the pines and then across Margaret Street to school.  It would be best if your children come with an adult for safety and supervision purposes.  I will need a number of parent helpers to ensure we are safely making our way to school along Bruce Street and crossing Margaret Street.  If you can ride with us and are happy to help, please email me at .

School Council

I would like to thank all of the parents nominated themselves to sit on the school council for the next two years.  The newly elected school councillor as Sarah Turner, Ben English and Sam Evans.  Our first meeting is this evening and I look forward to welcoming the newest members.

I would like to acknowledge and thank those parents who were nominated and were unsuccessful in the election process.  We are in the favourable position where we have a committed and engaged parent group who are willing to volunteer for these roles.  I am very grateful for that, I think it is evidence of our strong school community.

Heidi Winchester

Late last year I wrote about the prospect of a private councillor working in the school to support children who may need the guidance to help them deal with anxiety, friendship issues, behaviour issues, grief or many other reasons. On our website, there is now a link to the information about the councillor, Heidi Winchester, who we have engaged.  The information pack contains some background on Heidi and the steps that you need to take to start your child with the service.  Please read the information in this pack and then see me if you have any questions, or need help to fill in any of the forms. It would be beneficial to meet with me so that we can complete the ‘Counselling Intake Form’ together.

If you are interested, the first step is to read the information and complete the intake and consent forms in this pack.  Please see me if you have any questions, or need help with the forms.

The next step is to take your child to their GP, paediatrician or psychiatrist to discuss the problem. The doctor can then develop a mental health treatment plan which may involve visits to a mental health professional. The doctor also needs to provide a referral letter to this professional. The mental health treatment plan allows for your child to have up to 10 sessions with the mental health professional each calendar year, with the costs covered by Medicare.

Please find the link to more information here.  Printed form are available at the front office.

Matt Forrest

The most important action school communities can take to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19 is to ensure that any unwell staff and students remain at home and get tested, even with the mildest of symptoms. It is also important to get tested when the Department of Health recommends it, for example, if you have visited an exposure site.

you are reminded of COVIDSafe behaviours:

  • stay home when unwell
  • practise good hygiene
  • ensure physical distancing
  • wear a face mask when required and recommended
  • avoid interactions in enclosed spaces.

From the Office

Lost Property

The lost Property Pile is huge! If your child has lost an item of property we welcome you to come in and take a look. Restrictions have lifted surrounding parents in the school buildings, so parents are able to search through lost property (situated by the student toilets) for any missing uniform, lunchboxes, drink bottles, etc.  These items will be thrown out if not collected at the end of term.

Asthma and Anaphylaxis Students

The Department of Education requires each student that has Asthma or Anaphylaxis to have a Management Plan. The plans are written up by the school and will be sent home with the students for parents to sign and return to school. We also require any students with Asthma to fill out a school camp and excursion form that needs to be completed prior to the students going on camps or excursions.

Messages for students

If you need to get a message to your child, please ensure you call the office prior to 3:15pm. The end of the school day is very busy in the office and we are not always able to leave the office to locate children and give them the message.

Absence Notifications

If your child is late or absent from school without explanation from parents, an SMS will be sent to Adult A at around 10.15am. Please respond to the SMS promptly. Please note the following:

If your child is LATE FOR SCHOOL, a parent must accompany the child to the office when you arrive, sign your child in the Early Leavers/Late Arrival book and take a “Late Pass” for your child to hand to their teacher. Rolls are marked promptly at 9am. If the music has finished and your child is not yet in class, they have probably missed the roll.

If your child will be ABSENT FROM SCHOOL, we ask that you either:

  • Log onto Skoolbag and record the absence
  • Phone the school on 5426 1518 and leave a message on the absence voicemail; or
  • Send an email to the school’s email address;

If you need to take your child EARLY FROM SCHOOL we ask that you:

  • Call or email the office to advise what time you will be collecting your child so we can have them ready at the office.
  • come to the office to sign your child out.

Working With Children Checks

All parents, carers and other visitors to Macedon Primary require a current Working With Children’s Check to volunteer at the school. To apply for a volunteer WWCC you simply log on to (its free!)

If you have a current WWCC or VIT and have not advised the office, please bring your card into the office to have it photocopied or simply take a photo of the card and email it to the office at

If parents do not have a current working with children check, they cannot attend camps/excursions.

Seperated families

We understand and appreciate that the domestic situation of families is very personal and private, however, if parents of our students do not live together, it is important that our school database reflects this arrangement.

If you and the parent of your child no longer live together, can you please fill out the alternative family form (attached below) so we have correct contact details. All information shared will remain confidential and private.

Mrs Kean said they have been doing home schooling for 12 months. Super proud of the way everyone listened and answered questions. Well done 4CS! 🌟👏🏻🤩 We look forward to doing it again!

Ride2School Day - 19th March

National Ride2School Day is Australia’s biggest celebration of active travel. It is a day where students, teachers and parents discover the joy of riding and kick-start healthy habits for the future. You can, ride, scoot or walk to school. Let’s see if we can get over 100 students actively travelling to school.

National Ride2School Day will be held on Friday 19 March 2021.

We would also like to raise some money for World Bicycle Relief. We are having a gold coin donation on the day. If you would like to look at the Bicycle Relief program, please check out their website: or watch this video:

Sunsmart Reminder

Although it may still be cold, Victoria’s UV levels are on the rise so please check the daily local sun protection times to see when you need to be SunSmart.  The sun protection times are a forecast from the Bureau of Meteorology for the time of day UV levels are forecast to reach 3 or higher in your location. At these levels, sun protection (hat, clothing, sunscreen, shade and, if practical, sunglasses) is recommended for all skin types

When outdoors, whether that be for the two hours of permitted exercise in metropolitan Melbourne or if you’re lucky enough to be allowed outside for longer, to  check the sun protection times and use sun protection accordingly. For more information for families please check out
