Congratulations

Congratulations to all of our students for their dedication to learning, growth and excellence throughout the year and thank you to every parent for your wonderful support of the school in 2022. On your behalf, I would like to sincerely thank every member of the executive and staff for their energy and commitment to the school and wish them a well-deserved break. Best wishes for the festive season.

New Curriculum

From 2023 to 2025 all of the K-6 syllabus documents will change starting with the English and Mathematics for K-2 classes.  Next year all Department of Education primary schools will be providing an additional 5 hours per term to class teachers for professional learning on the new curriculum.  This will increase to 10 hours per term for 2024 and 2025. Assistant Principals will receive one day a week from 2023 to support their teachers with the new curriculum.

Class Formation 2023

This year the school will again be utilising specialised software to form classes and store historical data on student placement.

Even so, we will utilise anecdotal records, student assessments and other class records to assist with balanced student placement in classes for 2023.

Students have been engaged in the initial process of forming classes through identifying 5 learning partners.  This is to enable students to have one or two children they know in their class to work with on the first days of the new year before new friendships are formed.

Considerations for new classes include:

  • Peer preferences, pairings and separations;
  • EALD (English as an Additional Language or Dialect);
  • Academic performance in literary and numeracy;
  • Behaviour;
  • Learning and support needs, and special needs;
  • Balance of boys/girls

The class formation software assists grade teams and executive to form classes in an informed, logical and efficient way while also keeping a record of all the information.

The composition of classes will not be known until after all students return at the start of next year.

Class of the Week - 5H

Tree of Life (1909) was created according to the Biblical allusion of the Tree of Life, symbolic of the earth, heavens, and underworld. The spirals, twists, and turns in the branches stand for the complexities of life, whereas some point to the sky, reflecting a connection to the heavenly world. The blackbird at the centre establishes a link with the underworld, signifying doom and death.

Class 5H used wire, pipe cleaners and wool to create 3D models of Klimt’s Tree of Life, then decorated the branches with beads and pompoms.

2023 school travel applications are now open

Students who need a School Opal card or travel pass for 2023 can apply now.

A new application will need to be submitted if they are applying for the first time, or if they are requesting an additional travel entitlement as a result of a new shared parental responsibility situation (e.g. joint custody). Students who change address, school, campus location, have repeated a year or received an expiry notification from Transport for NSW for their school travel entitlement should renew or update their details before the end of term 4. This will ensure that schools can endorse applications, and entitlements remain valid for the start of the 2023 school year.

Students in the Opal network applying for an Opal card for the first time will receive their Student Opal card at their nominated postal address. Cards will be mailed out from January 2023.

For further details please see the attachment below.
