Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am truly overwhelmed by the warm welcome and kind words that I have received upon my return at Concord Public School. Listening to children yell my name across the playground and having ex-students pop in to say hello, have filled my day with enormous joy. I also received a beautiful welcome on my door by the students of 3/4GE, along with lovely messages and drawings from students across the school.

This last fortnight has been a whirlwind of information and adjustments, made easier by the enormous support of our wonderful staff. My priority since returning has been to reconnect with people – the staff, the children, the parents, the Inclusive Classes, the Waste Warriors and the School Captains. This has allowed me to gain personal insight and direction for this semester. I feel enormously privileged to have this opportunity to serve this amazing community once again.

I’d like to personally thank Ms Michelle Verhagen for leading the school in my absence. There have certainly been quite a few big and challenging projects over the last 10 months and Ms Verhagen has led them all with expertise and enhanced the school in many ways. Thank you, Ms Verhagen! I wish you well as you embark in your new role as Principal at Turramurra North Public School.

Mrs Papas and her husband have welcomed the arrival of their baby girl, Anastasia on 16th July. Both mum and baby are doing very well. We send them our love and best wishes as they transition into their new life together and we look forward to seeing them soon when they visit our school.

Staffing Update:

  • Mrs Coco – will continue in her role as Deputy Principal at Berala Public School for the remainder of this year. Mrs Coco has asked me to pass on her greetings and to tell you that although she is away in another role for the time being, she is here in spirit and she is looking forward to returning to her substantive position as Assistant Principal (hopefully by late Term 4!!).

  • Welcome back Mrs Vermiglio – who returns from maternity leave. Mrs Vermiglio will be working on Mondays and Tuesdays in the Learning Support role, supervising Early Stage 1 and Stage 1.

Welcome back Mrs Lees – I’m sure many of you would remember Mrs Lees as the substantive Assistant Principal of Concord Public School several years ago, before she retired. Mrs Lees returns to the position of Relieving Assistant Principal, replacing Mrs Coco in terms 3 and 4. She will be working on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, sharing her leadership and Learning Support role with Mrs Vermiglio on Early Stage 1 and Stage 1.

Welcome Ms Kopkoson – who comes to us as an experienced classroom teacher from Berala Public School. She will be replacing Ms Papas on 3/4P until the end of the year whilst Mrs Papas is on maternity leave.

Welcome Mr Thomas – who comes from Enfield Public School, replacing Mrs Alam on 2A until the end of the year, as a temporary class teacher. Mr Thomas applied through the merit selection process and was the successful candidate for this position.

What a beautiful day we all experienced at St. Luke’s Oval on Monday for our Athletics Carnival. The entire oval was filled with a sea of colour, activity, cheer and energy by young and “older”, as the children took part in the many events. Records were broken and the cheering got louder and louder throughout the day, as some of the final events took place. Thank you to the many parents and grandparents who volunteered to assist. These huge whole school events would not be possible without your help. And thank you to Mr Crisafulli and the Athletics Day Committee for your many weeks of planning and organisation. A hugely successful day had by all.

I look forward to seeing many of you at our Open Day this coming Tuesday, 6th August as part of Education Week, celebrating “every student, every voice”.

Dance Fever Multi Sport for K - 6

Dance is a mandatory part of the Creative Arts curriculum and this term Concord Public School students are participating in a whole school dance program, Dancefever Multisport. This program is structured for all ages and abilities and Dancefever staff are accredited. The students learn both contemporary and creative dance compositions. In addition to teaching dance skills the program also teaches the students how to interact and use appropriate social skills.
