It has been such a great start to the term for each of our adventure seekers. Children are showing great resilience with their adaptability to new classrooms, new friends and new teachers. We can’t believe that we are almost at the half way mark, and still have many more exciting activities coming up with our Harmony and anti-bullying day of action and our whole-school Sports Day.
PUPIL FREE DAY - FRIDAY 6TH MARCH
Staff across Partnership sites will come together to share planning and moderate student learning in English. In the afternoon we will spend time learning about Brightpath, an assessment tool that supports feedback and moderation of writing for every child. Information from moderation will feed into 3 way interviews and SMARTaR writing goals for your child/ren.
3 WAY PARENT TEACHER STUDENT INTERVIEWS
In weeks 8 and 9, class and specialist teachers will run 3 way interviews. For new families, you will have received a letter to inform you how to register online through our Sentral Parent Portal to book your online interview time(s), and for existing families an email was sent today. Students R-7 are a valued part of these interviews as when they are involved in discussions about what they know, the goals they need to learn next and discuss how they can achieve these they are powerful and involved learners. If you require a confidential discussion about your child then please speak with your child’s teacher. As an additional support for families, students who attend flexible targeted maths groups will bring home a letter detailing an opportunity families have to book an interview time with their Numeracy support teacher - Ms Vithi for Years 3 and 4 and Ms Guttridge for Years 5-7. These staff will support you to know ways to help your child with key mathematics.
If you require an optional 5 minute interview with one of the specialist teachers - PE, Art, Performing Arts or Japanese, please email them directly to organise a time.
SCHOOL ENROLMENT POLICY
Families of children due to commence Reception in 2021, and seeking a place at WLSS are encouraged to fill out an expression of interest for their child by Friday 22nd May 2020. This includes applications for siblings, students in zone, and any students - should they not live in zone - applying to be considered for a place in 2021. All enrolments will be considered in line with the department enrolment policy which can be found on the school website.
It will be a busy school year as we plan the implications of Year 6 and Year 7 having their final primary school year in 2021. All Year 7 students will commence at High School in 2022.
If you know your child will be commencing at an alternate school, including private High School in 2021, please can you email our enrolment officer Janet Massey at your earliest convenience. This information is vital for our class structures and has implications for staffing, school planning of senior school processes and pre-booked 2021 excursions and camps. Your support with this is hugely appreciated as we plan for the impact of future change.
VOLUNTEERS
Governing Council have endorsed the Camps and excursions policy and procedures that can be found on our school website. We need to ensure strict ratios on all excursions/camps and the support of volunteers enables these events to take place. In order to become a school based volunteer you will need to complete RAN training, an online induction training session and have a current up to date DCIS or WWCC clearance, that is funded by the Department. For all information please contact the site or email Michelle Fearne - michelle.fearne570@schools.sa.edu.au who will happily support you with this process. Family members who wish to support students during swimming weeks in Term 2 need to be compliant so please start your process now.
