Social Distancing and Road Crossing
Once again, thank you for recognising the importance of staying out of the school grounds at present. We are aware that this has caused some congestion at the front pedestrian gate where it is difficult to socially distance. To help alleviate the congestion, from tomorrow, I will be providing a daily afternoon road cross for students who have organised with their parents to meet on the other side of the road. Please consider this as an option if the area near the pedestrian access is crowded. Each afternoon these students will wait for the teacher where the students assemble for buses and the teacher will promptly walk the students over the school crossing.
Remember the pickup points are:
- Outside the school gate on Hawken Rd or across the road (western side of Hawken Rd)
- The grassed area in front of the Library
- The grassed area in front of the Amphitheatre (below the Kindergarten room)
- Council parkland adjacent to the Amphitheatre.
Please note: Access to the council parkland or grassed area below the Kindergarten room is via Church St. Please do not walk through the school grounds to get to these pick up points.
We all have a personal responsibility to adhere to social distancing guidelines so please be mindful of this during afternoon pick up.
Stage 3 Canberra Excursion
Mr Munn, Mrs Raymer and I are very sad that we have had to cancel our Years 5 and 6 excursion to Canberra. We were all hoping conditions would improve with COVID19, but Departmental advice is that overnight camps are on hold this term.
How Are You Travelling?
Our thoughts are with our families who have been affected by flooding over the past week. Please do not hesitate to contact the school if there is anything we can do to assist.
2020 is certainly the year that keeps on giving and not surprisingly there is a large amount of anxiety within the wider community at present. Here at school we explicitly teach concepts such as resilience and perseverance, both of which are important in dealing with the difficult circumstances we come across in our lifetime. While over time most people are able to recover from a traumatic event, experiencing a series of negative events in a short space of time, as our community has done over the past 9 months, can have a significant impact on both children, adults and families.
As a ‘Be You’ (formally KidsMatter) affiliated school, the resources we draw upon aim to support not only our students but the wider community. The link below will take you to a fact sheet on the impact of natural disasters on mental health and signs to look for in our children. There are some great resources available on the ‘Be You’ website, so I encourage you to grab a cuppa, find a few quiet minutes and spend some time looking through the site. Remember, please reach out to us if we can assist in any way.
Have a great week,
Rod White
