Term 3 - Week 2 (29 July 2022)

Dear St Mary's School Community

Values in Focus: Faith

We believe strongly in God and in each other.

Gospel: Luke 12: 13-21

In Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus tells the parable of the farmer.  In this parable, Jesus wants to lead his followers into an understanding that over the years (like farmers), we’ve had good years and bad, drought and bumper crops.  A number of times we’ve been so much in debt and we didn’t think we’d pull through.  Through it all, we try to stay faithful to God, trusting him and praying.  Somehow, God always comes through for us.

Holy Communion

Our Holy Communion program for 2022 begins with the Parent/Student Information Session on Tuesday, 2 August at 3.30pm in the Year 3/4 classroom.  We have five students receiving the sacrament this year.  The Sacrament will be held on Sunday, 11 September 2022 at 10.30am.

BRLA

We began the Bishops Religious Literacy Assessment for Year Three and Year Five this week, with the practice test and equating assessment over the last two days.  The students will then sit the Assessment (online) next Thursday.

Children’s Liturgy

Children’s Liturgy will take place on Sunday at the 10.30am Mass.  All are welcome to attend and Miss Walsh and Mrs O’Malley would love to see lots of children attending and joining in the activity.

National Tree Day

Planet Ark's National Tree Day started in 1996 and has grown into Australia's largest community tree planting and nature care event.  It's a call to action for all Australians to get their hands dirty and give back to the community.  While every day can be Tree Day, we dedicate celebration of Schools Tree Day and National Tree Day to the last Friday in July, and first Sunday in August respectively.  In 2022, Schools Tree Day is Friday 29th July and National Tree Day is Sunday 31st July.  Thank you to Two Dogs Hardware (Chesney Maloney), Merredin Toyota (Guy Withers) and Merredin Police who helped St Mary's plant some trees at the back of the Early Learning Centre (near the volleyball courts).  A big thank you goes to Mrs McCormack for coordinating the afternoon for our school!

Family Friday

Family Friday has been added to the Term Three planner.  This will occur on Friday, 12 August.  Please put the date in your diary to come and see all the wonderful work that is taking place in your child's classroom.

Class News

Year Two Class News

What a busy start to Term Three we have had in Year Two!

We have started our Kindy Reading Buddies and have loved meeting our new kindy friends. We chose a book with them to read, which was great practise for our reading fluency and expression!

This week we came back to find our green crayons had gone missing… They left us a few clues to work out where they had gone and we had the best time learning the story of their adventure to solve the mystery. Look out for some awesome adventure narratives that we will be writing.

In Maths this term we have a very busy plan with learning to count and add money on the to-do list. We have a brand new class café which is full of groceries, delicious hot drinks and lots of tasty treats! We are becoming amazing mathematicians with our super fast facts and have even started marking our own work using calculators on our iPads.

After enjoying the school holidays, we started our term off by talking about the importance of love and kindness in Religion and had lots of warm fuzzies to share with each other. We have discussed how showing love creates a sense of belonging and brainstormed some great ways to be inclusive.

We are looking forward to another amazing term!
