Dudley Public School Newsletter

Term 4 Week 8 2020

Principal’s Message

As we begin December staff are working hard planning for the celebrations that normally take place at this time of the year. In 2020 these will look different to any other year. Unfortunately we will not be able to have large numbers of community present at these events. We will hold or annual Presentation Day, Kindergarten Graduation and Year 6 Farewell and try our best to provide a window into these events for those who can't attend. We want to acknowledge the wonderful community support and understanding of the challenges school staff have encountered this year. It would be much simpler to run things as normal.

Our last P&C meeting is tonight and we can hold it at school with a maximum of 20 people. I would like to acknowledge the hard working P&C Executive who have navigated the changing landscape of running a P&C effectively over Zoom. While at times I have forgotten to select the right settings (meaning no one could connect) a quick phone call resolved these issues and they have managed to keep things going. There have been few opportunities for fundraising but somehow they have found a way and they have been well supported by community.

Parent Teacher Interviews were held over Zoom successfully and we had the majority of parents connected with their child's teacher. Semester 2 Reports are well underway and will be available on the Sentral Parent Portal on Wednesday and sent home with students on Friday. This semester we will print reports, however from next year we are hoping to publish reports though the Portal unless you advise us you want a printed report.

If you have not yet connected with the Parent Portal please contact the school for further information.

Great Aussie Bush Camp a Great Success

Great Aussie Bush Camp Photos Folder #2

Last week, Stage 3 had the pleasure of going to school camp. They were one of the first school groups back to the Aussie Bush Camp after the pandemic. They had a joyous three days away in which they did many activities and had an overload of fun with their cabin mates and wonderful instructors.

Stage 3 participated in many activities, some muddy, some with height, and others with practical answers and problem solving skills. Among these tasks was the infamous Giant Swing. About 90% of the kids went to the top, which is at a height of about 17 metres. This was a record for Mr H and Mrs S throughout their whole time going to Stage 3 camps.

Anna Gillard says that she really liked the height activities because of the thrill of being up so high. Overall, she thinks this was her favourite camp.

Lilly Cousins, a fellow Year 6 to Anna, thought that the experience was memorable, and she laughed until she could laugh no more.

The Stage 3 group pushed their friends, and in the end all went home with a smile on their faces and a knowingness that they had conquered their fears, and helped their peers get through challenging activities.

Year 5 & 6 would like to thank Ethan, Peter, Nathan, Jared and Reagan and all of the team from the Great Aussie Bush camp for their wonderful care and unnerving skill to teach and to help everyone get over their fears. Stage 3 really enjoyed this camp, and are grateful for Mr H and Mrs S for letting them participate in such a memorable camp experience.

We would like to thank and congratulate Stage 3 for their outstanding behaviour and participation in this camp. It was enjoyable for both the students and teachers. The instructors commented regularly on our students' excellent behaviour and the head chef actually came out on the first day to tell us that everyone one of our students thanked his staff as they collected their food and that they couldn't believe the beautiful manners from our Dudley students. Congratulations Stage 3. You have made us all so very proud.

Head Lice Alert!

Dear parents,

The dreaded head lice are here at Dudley PS. We would ask that all parents check their children’s hair thoroughly and if they find head lice to treat appropriately. There are many treatments and remedies available from your local pharmacy and very helpful hints available  online.

Thank you

Doin It for Rural Aussie Kids - Santa Sacks

In week 6, our school raised money for ‘Doin It For Rural Aussie Kids’. It is a small Not For Profit Charity founded by entertainer Jason Owen and his fiancé Becy Harvey to provide practical assistance to rural families.  Both Jason and Becy were born and raised in small rural villages in Central West NSW and both have a passion for rural communities.

On Friday the 20th of November, our students dressed in fantastic red and green Christmas themed outfits with their gold coin donation and we were able to raise $366.50. All money donated went to creating Santa Sacks to support children and families in regional Australia.

Jason from ‘Doin It For Rural Aussie Kids’ is heading out next week on a massive run to rural and remote schools and will be dropping Santa Sacks as he goes.  Jason will be posting on their Facebook page as he goes if you would like to follow his journey.

Thank you to all students who have returned their library books. There are still a large number of overdue books outstanding so please keep looking at home if you have received an overdue notice.

Borrowing has finished for this year to allow time to organise the collection in readiness for next year.

Premier's Reading Challenge certificates.

Students who completed the PRC will receive their certificate next week. We had a very successful Premier's Reading Challenge at Dudley PS with a massive 90% of students completing it. A huge congratulation to each and every student for this achievement, well done!

Thank you to all families and students who have supported Dudley PS library this year through book donations, purchasing at the book fair and regular purchasing through book club. We receive rewards for every dollar spent which allows us to maintain a broad collection which supports the range of interests of our students.

Kind regards, Eimear Dunne

P & C Meeting

The final P & C Meeting for 2020 will be held tonight Wednesday 2 December at 7pm in the School Library.

Tamburlaine Organic Wine Fundraiser

Canteen Corner

Thanks everyone for supporting the canteen during 2020!

Special thanks to the Year 6 canteen monitors who have assisted me in term 3 and 4 with frozen treat sales!

Our last day for lunch service will be Wednesday 9th December and frozen treats will be Friday 11th December. There will be no service during the last week of school.

Next year we look forward to increasing our service by welcoming back volunteers. To help make the rosters I am asking all volunteers (even longstanding ones) to email the canteen with available days and frequency. Currently I have received one email so please send them in ASAP.

I wish all Dudley families a safe and Merry Christmas! I look forward to seeing your smiling children’s faces in 2021!
