Principal's Pen

We have made it through yet another busy term. I congratulate all our Glengarry Students with outstanding behaviour and participation at the House Carnival last Friday. Those who were selected based on their results last week are now representing our school at the CDSSA Interschool event today and Friday. Best of luck to them!

I will be continuing to warm Mr Meston's seat while he is on leave until the end of Term 3. We look forward to his return in Term 4.

May your school holidays be full of family time and relaxing!

Please note that while we have the 22nd September as a Public Holiday, school will be open on Friday 23rd September.

Important Information

Early and Late Arrivals

Please note; all children (including those accompanied by adults) must assemble in the Undercover Area when arriving from 8.30am each day.

Children will be supervised during this time and dismissed at 8.45am to prepare for the school day.

Before school care can be arranged with our onsite OSHC partner Zig Zags by phoning 0421 369 513 or emailing admin@zigzagsoshc.com.au

If your child arrives after 8.50am (including Kindergarten students), please attend the office to collect a Late Pass prior to going to the classroom.  This will avoid unnecessary absentee SMS notifications where your child is marked absent.

2023 School Placement

Please inform the school if your child/children (excluding Year 6) will not be attending Glengarry Primary School in 2023 by emailing glengarry.ps@education.wa.edu.au or calling our school office on 9378 5678. This will help with planning for the new school year.

Thank you for your co-operation.

House Carnival

Is it Bullying?

A bully is a person who tries to take power over another person.  Bullying is a repeated behaviour and includes:

  • Physical bullying (hitting, kicking, forcing, stealing, destroying property)
  • Verbal and nonverbal bullying (name calling, threatening, insulting, teasing, making faces, eye rolling, taunting)
  • Relational bullying (refusal to talk to someone, spreading gossip, whispering about someone, forcing unwanted actions, writing hurtful words about someone)
  • Cyber bullying (bullying through the use of mobile phones, text messages, emails, social media, online forums)

It is important to help children understand the difference between being rude or mean, and bullying.

  • Rude is when a person says or does something hurtful without intending to and they do it once.
  • Mean is when a person intentionally says or does something to hurt another person and they do it once.
  • Bullying is when a person repeatedly and intentionally hurts someone else with their words or actions and refuses to stop when asked.

Let’s work together to help students differentiate between being rude, mean, or bullying to make Glengarry a peaceful, safe, and positive school environment.

RU Ok Day

Luna the Story Dog

Our Story Dog Luna and her owner Kira have now commenced the highly anticipated Story Dogs reading program for selected Year 4 students.  Students involved are thoroughly enjoying the sessions and are grateful for the time Kira volunteers.

To be able to expand this program to involve more students, we would need another Story Dog.  If you have a well behaved dog and time to volunteer, visit https://www.storydogs.org.au/.

Help Needed for Nature Play logs installation

Thanks to support from our P&C we have purchased 12 yarning circle logs for our Nature play area. We are seeking support from our GPS community to dig the holes (preferably with a digger) and install the logs ready for Term 4. If you have the drive, the time, some knowledge about digging and/or a landscaping business. Please get in contact with Jacinta.stephens@education.wa.edu.au

Wonderful World of Work

As a follow up activity to their excursion to the State Theatre to see Cicada, Room 6 students used model magic to bring their inner insect designs to life!

Their Wonderful Work was presented to Miss Cole.

Soccer Star

Eight teams took part in the “Armadale Cup” competition starting with  three 20-minutes games.  RedStar won all three games kicking 18 goals (5 of them are Darren's).  In the play-off, RedStar won their quarter and semi-final with the same score 4-0 where Darren kicked a goal in both games.  The final game against Byford soccer club ended with a score of  0-0, but RedStars were successful in penalty kicks and won the Cup.

Health and Hygiene

School Hats

Students must wear their navy blue 'bucket' hats in Terms 1 and 4 when not undercover.  If your child does not have a hat, now is the time to head over to Lowes.

Beginning next term, students not wearing their hat at recess and lunch time will be directed to an undercover area.  Please ensure your child's hat is labelled with their name so that it may be returned to them promptly if lost.

Allergy Aware School

We have a number of students in the school with life threatening allergies.  The triggers for the allergies include nuts, dairy products, soy products, eggs, seafood and bee stings.

An anaphylactic reaction involves the respiratory and cardiovascular systems and can result in death within minutes of the reaction commencing.  Immediate treatment is essential.

These life threatening reactions can be triggered by touching a surface that has traces of allergens and also by breathing in allergies such as nuts, dairy products, eggs, seafood.

Glengarry Primary School aims to minimise the risk by asking for your support in creating a safer environment for all students.

Parents can assist in the following ways:

  • Not providing nut products at school including peanut paste, Nutella and avoiding any product known to contain nuts
  • Encourage your child  not to share or swap their food or drink bottles
  • Encourage your child to wash their hands before and after eating
  • Encourage your students to wear shoes while at school.
  • Carefully consider the food sent for birthday treats in relation to the class.

Is your child feeling unwell?

If your child is unwell with cold and flu symptoms, please keep them at home and consider checking in with your GP if symptoms don't resolve

Healthy WA also recommends seeking a COVID test for cold and flu symptoms.  See links below for more info.

Department of Health LINK

DoE LINK

As directed by our guidelines, we will ask for your child to be collected if they are displaying cold symptoms such as a cough, runny nose, fever etc.

We have a student at school who is immunocompromised.  This means they can potentially become gravely ill even when contracting a common cold/virus.  Please be mindful of sending students to school when they are unwell, as they may spread their infection.  Please speak with your GP/health professional and see the information in the links above re: advice about keeping your child at home when unwell.

P&C News

Looking for Legends!

New experiences, meeting new people, learning new skills, sharing your knowledge or just helping out.

The P&C fundraising committee is looking to meet new people.

Through planning, promoting and managing events throughout the school year (for example School Disco, Colour Blast, Campout, Christmas Carols) the P&C fundraising committee supports the funding of the Glengarry Primary School P&C projects and more importantly brings the school community together.

There are many tasks that can be done outside of work/school hours. There is no obligation, help out once or as many times as you like.

Please get in touch with the P&C if this sounds like you.
