Mount Ousley Public School News

A small school with big opportunities.

Term 4 Week 7, Wednesday 23 November 2022

Principal's Report

We are half way through week 7 and the list of fun and exciting upcoming events continues to grow. The most notable of which is the presentation of the 2023 leadership speeches. These speeches will be delivered to the school and community on Monday 28 November (week 8) from 12 noon. Speeches will be in the hall at this time. Parents are invited to attend. Due to this event we will not be having an assembly on this day.

As we move closer to the end of the staff changes are inevitable. This year, we will be saying farewell to Ms Carradice as she returns to Sydney to her permanent position. I would like to thank her for all her hard work and dedication to our school and students throughout 2022 and wish her all the very best for the future.

To ensure all students are using their breaks to stretch their legs and burn off some energy we are asking that Pokemon cards only come to school on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the remainder of the term. This will ensure students can still enjoy the Pokemon games a few times per week, but also be active in the playground on the other days. This helps with their concentration in class and overall health and wellbeing.

After our consultation with the community, students and staff we have decided to move forward with the reinstatement of 'House Groups' and these will be named Djeera (Mt Keira), Djembla (Mt Kembla), Kurimul (Brokers Nose), Nebo (Mt Nebo), the Dharawal language will be taught to us by Elders to ensure we are using the correct pronunciation. We will be holding a 'House Day' in week 10 for students to work together on logo designs which will be inclusive of the Dreaming stories of these mountains. The day will also include team building games and house captain leadership selection. We will launch this initiative in its entirety at the beginning of 2023. These houses will be utilised to build a strong sense of belonging, within these teams and across the school. They are also going to be a way for students to work on fundraising for charities of their choice throughout the year. We are really looking forward to having students connect in this way.

We will once again be collecting donations for the Giving Tree. If you would like to donate to this wonderful cause, could you please send gifts to the office unwrapped and clearly marked with giving tree.

The magazine is now available to be ordered at a cost of $20 per copy. If you would like one, please fill the relevant details onto the Google Doc here: https://tinyurl.com/2s3sxzmh

Orders will be accepted until 10th February 2023, as delivery will not be until early March. If your child will not be attending our school in 2023, please indicate on the form how you would like to receive your copy.

There is also a competition for students to design either the front or back cover of Koolyangarra 2022. Entry forms can be collected from Mrs Hamers in the library. The 2 winning designers will receive a free copy of the yearbook. Cover designs will be accepted until Friday 9th December.
