Dudley Public School Newsletter

Term 2 Week 5 2022

Principal’s Message

Warm Welcome

Thankyou to all the students, staff and families for the warm welcome to Dudley Public School. The last few weeks have given me the opportunity to meet many new faces and I feel very fortunate to be leading such a great school in a wonderful community.

School Disco

Our first school disco for 2022 will take place tonight in Fairleigh Hall starting with Kindergarten to Year 2 at 5:00pm to 6:15pm followed by Years 3-6 from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. We look forward to welcoming students to this special event. Please note that processes for drop off and pick up will be strictly supervised by attending staff. Student safety is always our main priority, therefore all students must be picked up from the hall at the conclusion of their disco by a responsible adult. Thankyou for your support.

School Uniform

Our days are getting cooler now and with this we encourage students to dress appropriately to the weather conditions. Please ensure your child has a school jumper with their name clearly marked. Our ‘no hat, no play’ policy still applies in the colder months also.

Afternoon Pickup Procedures

We would like to thank our families for their care and consideration in the changes to routine of an afternoon with the crossing improvements being completed by council on Boundary St. Now that works are coming to completion we are looking forward to introducing our revised afternoon pickup procedures for parents and carers picking up their children at the end of the school day.

·         K-2 students will be able to be picked up from Fairleigh Hall each afternoon. Parents and carers are invited to come into the school grounds and meet their children in the afternoons.

·         Staff and crossing supervisors will supervise students who are walking home and utilising the two crossings outside our school.

·         The ‘Kiss and Ride’ zone will resume operation. We encourage parents to use this zone as intended as a quick option for pick up (2min max) with no parking or leaving your vehicle at any time. Please communicate with your child in the morning to arrange pick up in this area if appropriate.

·         Bike riders will walk their bikes out of the school grounds and across the road before hopping on their bike to ride home. Helmets must be worn each day.

We know many families have adjusted their pickup routine by parking in nearby streets and walking in and out of the school on the hall corner each day. We encourage families to continue this process where possible as it alleviates the build up of traffic on Boundary St.

As always, student safety is of paramount importance and we appreciate families working with our staff to ensure the pick up routines are safe for everyone. Thankyou in advance for your support and cooperation with these updated processes.

School Communication - Skoolbag

We pride ourselves on providing parents and carers with up-to-date information regarding the operations, events and activities of the school. Our Skoolbag app provides a platform for regular updates and keeps everyone informed on what is happening at Dudley PS. Some features we wish to highlight on the Skoolbag app are:

- You can submit an ‘Absentee Form’ or ‘Change of Details’ form electronically via the app. Simply click on the Dudley PS logo on the top left of the home page and it will take you to a page where you can access EFORMS (third tab across).

- You can view calendar events and add them to your personal calendar on your phone by clicking on the ‘Calendar’ tab at the bottom of the page.

- You can edit the groups that you receive notifications for by adding the grades that your child is enrolled in at school. Simply click on the Dudley PS logo on the top left of the home page and it will take you to a page where you can access GROUPS (second tab across). You may need to update the grades from previous years.

We hope this helps families stay connected with our school and informed on what is happening each week.

Have a wonderful week,

Chad Tsakissiris

Kindergarten's First Excursion...

Last Tuesday saw Kindergarten embark on their first ever school excursion! They walked down to the Awabakal Centre and had a day of learning outside of the classroom. Activities included measuring the weather using thermometers and anemometers. They enjoyed a bush walk, and learned about how certain places hold special value to our First Nations peoples. KF and KH got to learn about a variety of Aboriginal tools and completed some simple mapping activities.

Mrs Hunt and Mrs Friend reported that their behaviour, engagement, and application were superb, and they were so proud of their little learners. Kinders, you never cease to amaze us!

Learning Dispostions in Action...

This term, 2M and 2S have been putting their amazing brains together to work on challenging maths tasks. These tasks require students to collaborate with their peers, to apply their mathematical learning in a variety of ways. We are seeing some amazing creativity, curiosity, and perseverance, with many referring to their ‘sweaty maths brains’ by the end of the lessons. This is a great way to see our students applying our dispositions to their learning and it is wonderful to hear their comments, such as, ‘I’m doing a Harvey’ (persevering) or ‘I need to be more like Olivia’ (creative). Keep up the great work Year 2!

Thank you Parents/Carers!

A HUGE thankyou to all the parent/carer helpers who have been helping with artworks, reading groups, covering books... the list goes on! We truly appreciate all the time and effort you're giving to the school. The teachers are especially grateful for the help with the art canvases that are to be auctioned at the Trivia Night coming up soon. (See P&C News!) Who knew we have such talented artists in our community? Massive thanks to you all!

Friendship Garden

Many thanks to Mrs. Parmenter for leading the creation of a friendship rock garden. Every student in the school painted a rock and wrote a special message to show friendship and kindness to their fellow students. This rock garden is now a special part of our playground, and we love to read all the individual messages. Thank you, Mrs P for your lovely idea!

School Sustainability

Our fabulous gardening group have continued their hard work on our new sensory garden space. We have planted a whole range of native plants which we hope will thrive in their new homes. A big thank you to Paula for her help with planting as well as the P&C sustainability group who have done a great job organising the plant selection and supply in the background. We must also give a huge shout out to Mantles Landscape Supplies for their donation of mulch for our new garden.

If any other family or community members are interested in regularly assisting with our gardening group, please get in touch with Mrs Mullins or Mrs Adams via the school office.
