Camp 2024

Finally, only 1 more sleep until camp. 3 days of adventure and fun filled activities to build memories on. The children are all very excited. Make sure you have packed at least what is on the 'to bring list.' A refillable water bottle and brimmed hat is essential. If your child requires medication while on camp it needs to be labelled by a GP and given to Mrs Stewart in a ziplock bag. A specific medication permission form must be filled in and signed by a parent before medication can be given.  Children are not able to self medicate. The forecast has been for some showers while we are on camp so an extra set of clothes could come in handy. Just a reminder there are to be no aerosols brought on camp. Only roll ons and lotions. It might also be a good idea to bring a book to read for when we have a little quiet time, [not that there will be much of that] but just in case. A torch is also vital as we will be doing nightime activities.

Dental Van

The dental van will be visiting our school in early March. A notice for this was sent out via the Skoolbag app. If you would like any information regarding their visit, please contact the office. Appointments are made using your mobile to scan a QR code on the leaflet.

Permission forms

Recently all students were sent home will a Third Party permission form. This form enables students to use the internet to access Reading Eggs, Typing Tournament and Baggin the Dragon. These are programs that teachers use to enhance classroom learning. If these permission forms are not signed and returned to school, your child is unable to use these platforms. It is an Education Queensland requirement that parental permission is given before access is allowed. A number of students have been sent home with a second copy of this form. Could these forms be signed and returned as soon as possible.

Attendance

Consistent attendance at school is very important for continuity of learning. Please ensure children are in attendance at school on every possible day. We understand that illnesses occur throughout the year and appreciate adequate time at home for recovery when this occurs. In 2023 our attendance rate for the year was 90.4%.  Our target for attendance in 2024 is 93%. Our current attendance rate is 90.9%

We ask that parents who drop their children off at school before 8:00am please sign them in at the office. This is a requirement from the department.

Sporting Opportunities

During the year students will be given the opportunity to participate in various sporting activities and trials. These are held at different locations and usually after school. These trials are aimed at 10 - 12 year olds. The trials will be advertised in the school newsletter so that students are aware of what is coming up and if they wish to nominate they are able to. However, it is advised the ONLY students who are competent in demonstrating the skills of these sports [eg. play in a team outside of school] to nominate for these trials. These trials will require parental transport to and from activities.

List of upcoming trials

Rugby League [Boys] 13th March - Hatton Vale SS

Netball 28th February - Fernvale SS

Soccer 17th April - Fernvale SS

Cricket  [Boys] 10th July - Laidley District SS

Library

Just a friendly reminder that library is on Thursdays along with PE and Music. However this Thursday there will be no library as we are on camp. There are still a number of students who are forgetting their library books. If you could remind your child to put their bag in their school bag on Wednesday night that would be greatly appreciated.

P & C News

The first general meeting has been postponed until Wednesday, 28th February. We hope to see alot of new faces along with our existing members. The P&C helps to raise much needed funds for our students so as to enhance their learning opportunities at school. They also help to fund transport costs to events such as camp, excursions and sporting activities. Breakfast club on a Monday is another activity they provide for our students.

Our Annual General Meeting will be held in March 2024. Details of the exact date will go home shortly.

Consideration of our Neighbours

We are continuing to have issues will parents parking in front of private entries to our neighbours' properties. When parking in front of the school near our neighbours across the road, please be mindful of the access points to their properties. There are road signs and painted lines on the side of the road showing areas of NO PARKING for this reason. Please obey these signs so as not to inconvenience these people. There have several reports of parents not following the road rules recently.

Skoolbag App

The Skoolbag app has undergone a change of ownership and has updated its format. You may need to update the app on your device to ensure the latest version is available for your use. This app is an easy and quick way to inform the school of your childs absence.

School Phone Number

Recently the school had our phone system upgraded. This unfortunately meant a change in phone number. Our old phone number has been diverted for some time, but this option has recently been removed. Please ensure you update our contact number on your devices to reflect the new number.

Our new number is: 5466 9555

Always try your very best
