Fairfield Public School Newsletter Smore #46

Friday 03 May 2019

From the Principal

Welcome back to Term 2.  We have another busy term ahead of us.  We hope everyone had a fantastic holiday.  In this edition of the newsletter we discuss beginning of term, Easter hat parade and ANZAC Day  just to name a few.

ANZAC Day

ANZAC Day was commemorated on Wednesday 1 May 2019.  Ms Wells' gave a very personal presentation about her family's contribution, all of whom have served in the Australian Armed Services,  to Australia's safety going right back to Poppy Don who was an original ANZAC.  Ms Wells family donated two beautiful books, one an illustrated version of a AB (Banjo) Patterson Poem called 'We're All Australians Now". The poem was written in 1915 at the start of the war.  Read the poem here.  The other book is called 'My Gallipoli' written by Ruth Starke and Robert Hannaford.  The book tells the story of Gallipoli from both the Turkish and Australian perspective through letters and notes.  Both books will be in the library throughout Term 2 and then will be available to borrow in Term 3.  We thank the Wells family for their generosity.

Easter Hat Parade

We finished Term 1 with our annual Easter Hat parade.  There were so many interesting and varied designs.  Thank you to everyone who attended and joined in the festivities, especially Fairfield Preschool.

ANZAC Day Dawn Service

ON ANZAC Day members, of the Student Leadership Team and Mr Cansino, attended the Dawn Service as guests of Fairfield RSL.  They joined the dawn service and marched with service men and women to the War Memorial at Fairfield Park.  There they experienced the dawn service and represented the school in commemorating all who have fallen in war, particularly our ANZACS.

Harmony Day sends hope to the Bush

During Harmony Day in Term 1, the SRC collected a gold coin to donate to a worthy cause in regards to the Drought.  It is not just families that are affected by the drought, businesses and schools are equally affected.  So the SRC decided to donate the $404 raised to a school.  The money has been sent to Namingha Public School in the Northern Tablelands, to assist students with their education.  Thank you to everyone who donated.

Crazy Sock Day

Thank you to everyone who wore Crazy Socks to school on Thursday 4 April.  The Student Leadership Team was very excited by the number of Crazy Socks and how creative people were with their socks.  Some people had cars sewn onto their socks and pom poms.  All in all a very fun activity and we raised $247 dollars for SRC projects.

Mothers' Day Stall

The annual P&C Mothers' Day Stall will be held on Monday 6 May.  Students will go with their class to choose a gift.  If you wish your child to purchase a gift from the stall prices range from $2-$10.

NAPLAN

The first assessment, Language Conventions, will take place on Tuesday 14 May

The second assessment, Writing, will  take place on Tuesday 14 May

Earn and Learn at Woolworths

It's time for Earn and Learn at Woolworths.  If you are shopping at Woolworths please collect  as many stickers as you can! Last year we collected THOUSANDS, which translates into resources we can use for free at the school.  Some examples are stationery, balls, books, craft supplies.

Let's see if we can do better this year and get even more equipment.

Sticker sheets are available at the office.
