St Thomas More’s School Update

25th March 2019

Welcome to St Thomas More Catholic Primary School Toowoomba. Our school offers students a caring and nurturing learning environment. Our dedicated and experienced teachers provide a positive and enriching program, appreciating the individual needs and interests of each child.

Welcome to Week 9 at St Thomas More's

As we are nearing the end of first term 2019, we still have a couple of  action packed weeks of learning ahead of us at St Thomas More's.  Here's a quick update with all the goings on for the week.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Coming up next week we will be offering Parent/Teacher Interviews.  We encourage all parents to book in a time to see your child/ren's teacher.  Interviews play an integral part in the building of successful Parent/Teacher relationships, as well as providing an opportunity to discuss the successes and areas  for growth that you as parents or we as teachers have identified regarding your child's academic, social and faith development.

As with the interviews at the beginning of the year, we will agin be using the online booking system - School Interviews. (www.schoolinterviews.com.au)

When you visit the School Interviews website you will be prompted for an Event Code.  Our event code is: jnhhx

Once you enter the code, you will be able to enter your details and book in a time.

If you experience any difficulties, please phone the school and we will be able to book you in manually.

Girls' Winter Uniform

Following recent discussions, it has been decided that we will offer an option for girls to wear navy blue pants accompanied by the white shirt for the winter uniform. This is an interim measure until have had a wider discussion regarding the school uniform. At this stage the uniform shop will not stock the pants, instead they can be purchased directly from Hannas.

An image illustrating this option can be found on the school and P & F facebook pages.

DOT DAY

To celebrate the end of term and to raise money for Caritas we will be having a Dot Day in the last week of term on Wednesday 3 April. The Dot Day is based on a book called “The Dot” by Peter Reynolds. On the day the children can wear dotty clothes and participate in a whole host of dot activities. If students don’t already have clothes with dots on them they can use their imagination to think of different ways to wear dots eg. stickers, cut out dots and safety pin to clothes.

DOT DAY ART COMPETITION

As part of Dot Day we are also having a dot art competition. Entry forms are available from the Library. The students are given the challenge of being as creative as they can be designing their dot.

There will be two main categories

* Prep-Year 2

* Year 3-Year 6

The top twenty from each category, judged by the Service Club and Mrs Toye, will be put on display. The remainder will be displayed in a folder. All students will then have the opportunity to vote for their favourite in the Viewer’s Choice Award. Mrs Haddin and Mrs Heuschele will judge the three winners in each category and an overall winner.

The entries will be judged on their creativity, artistic style and technique.

The students need to put their name and grade on the back of the entry form.

All entries need to be delivered to the Library by the end of school on Friday 22 March.

Don’t forget to sign it!

The Sacrament of Confirmation will be held at St Thomas More’s Church on Thursday 30th May 2019 at 7.00pm. First Communion will be celebrated at both Masses on the weekend of 20 and 21 July 2019.
