2022 Term 1 Week 11

Last day of Term 1 Friday  8 April
First Day of Term 2 Wednesday 27 April

As Term 1 draws to a close I would like to congratulate all students for the their efforts and success in learning. Our students continue to apply great focus in learning and demonstrate flexibility when dealing with change. It was amazing to think that only one game of PSSA was able to be played this term.

It has been a very busy  term filled with many disruptions as a result of wet weather.  For two years, our school successfully managed to steer clear of Covid. Unfortunately this term Covid has been an intrusion on our daily programs and we have had to reorganise many times over to keep our classes operating smoothly.

I would like to acknowledge our teachers, for their collaboration and support of each other throughout this term.  As a small school they go above and beyond in their commitment to their profession. Teachers have established clear routines and structures that ensure student learning opportunities are provided every day.

Again our Office staff play a significant role in our school, managing communications and connecting parents, teachers and students.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank every family for your support  and understanding as we managed the many changes.

Easter and Ramandan are both special occasions that many families may celebrate in the coming weeks. We wish all of our students a wonderful two week break and I hope everyone can relax and rest, and be ready to return to school on Wednesday 27 April wearing winter uniforms.  Students return on the Wednesday as Tuesday 26 April is designated a Staff Development Day for teachers only.

The Uniform Shop will be open on Tuesday 3 May at 8.45am for sales or alternatively orders can be placed via the P & C website at mppspc.com and these will be delivered to your child's class.

Successful Learners

Flood Appeal

Thank you to the wonderful families who supported the Flood Appeal Fundraiser for Uki Public School either by donating sporting goods or through a cash donation.

The sport event was fantastic with all students and teachers enjoying a great session of activities. Thank you to Year 6 students who organised and ran each activity. They were brilliant in leading our youngest students through each rotation.

The school's donation to Uki Public School will be  forwarded to the school in the new term.

Information Update - COVID

There are regular updates from the Department of Health and Education.   These reminders are for those who are close or household contacts

  • If a person in your household tests positive to COVID-19, they must self-isolate away from everyone else in the house for 7 days from the date of their positive test. They must follow the advice for people testing positive to COVID-19 which includes, how to self-isolate effectively. If the person is unable to safely self-isolate by themselves (e.g. due to their young age), a parent or carer should self-isolate with them.
  • The entire household must also self-isolate for 7 days from the date of the positive person’s test. They should follow the advice for people exposed to COVID-19 and take a test as soon as possible, have another test on Day 6 and at any time COVID-19 symptoms appear.
  • If another person in your household tests positive to COVID-19, that person must restart their 7 day self-isolation period from the date of their positive test, even if they don’t have any symptoms.
  • Other household members who test negative, do not need to re-start their 7 day self-isolation period. They also do not have to self-isolate again anytime in the following 14 days unless they test positive.
  • People who test positive to COVID-19 and complete their 7-day self-isolation period do not have to test or self-isolate as any type of contact for 12 weeks after their release.
  • Self-isolation means staying at home or at your accommodation. This means you cannot drive your children to school or day care; you must ask someone else to do this. You must only leave self-isolation to get medical care or in an emergency. For more information, read the self-isolation rules.

Stay home if Unwell

All schools are struggling with rising case numbers of covid  in both students and staff. With constant wet weather, increased time indoors and the beginning of autumn we all need to be mindful to stay well and safe and to protect all members of the school community.

Many viruses have similar symptoms, including gastro and COVID-19. It is important that students do not attend school if they are unwell, even if they have tested negative for COVID-19. RATs can produce false negative results and symptoms of other illnesses can also be similar to COVID-19, including flu, the common cold and stomach bugs. Health advice is that students who are sick should always stay home to rest and recover and avoid putting other students and staff at risk of getting sick.

Zones Of Regulation

Life Education

Healthy Harold is here this week

Over the next three days, April 6th-8th, the Life Education van will be visiting our school to present its PDH program. Each student will attend the van with their class teacher. The cost of this incursion is $10 per child, paid on the school invoices. The cost includes the mobile classroom visit and student worksheets, which provide activities to complement the PD/ Health/ PE curriculum.

The Life Education program is a curriculum based program that empowers children to make safe and healthy lifestyle choices. The programs focus on issues around food and nutrition, personal safety, physical activity and more.
