Dear Community
Welcome to Term 4 everyone! Please read below for updated information on a number of Term 4 events, followed by a building update and some exciting news about our website.
Term Planner additions and updates
- Swimming lessons (PP-Year 6) start next week and run daily until Friday 4 November. As the first group leave at 8:55 am it is important to be at school on time and make sure that your children have packed everything that they need as there will be no time to follow this up before the lessons start.
- Surfing: lessons will commence in Week 5 on Tuesday 8 November and run weekly until Tuesday 6 December. Places are limited and an expression of interest will be sent home next week. Priority will be given to students who may have missed out in Term 1.
- End of Year Concerts/ award presentations: Due to construction, we will be running 3 separate end of year award ceremonies this year. They are likely to be held in the under cover area on the following days
- Rooms 9, 4 and 5 – Wednesday 7 December from 2pm
- PP and Room 6 – Thursday 8 December from 2pm
- Rooms 2,14,11 and 12 – Monday 12 December from 2pm
Building for our Future
Things are definitely starting to happen on our building site! Over the past month you will have noticed that several sheds have been demolished, the colourful tables next to the under cover area have been removed and a ramp for disability access has been installed in the under cover area. What isn’t so obvious is the works that have been done underground and within existing structures to support utilities for the new block. And, of course, in the last 24 hours there has been a lot of work done in preparation of laying the concrete pad. It’s great to see that so far, everything is going to plan!
If you have any initial queries about this exciting project, please don’t hesitate to call or email me on Sarah.Dawson@education.wa.edu.au .
School Website
Over the next few months our school website will be undergoing a major overhaul. In the next few weeks you will notice that the existing site will be removed and replaced with a basic holding page with only essential information to do with enrolments.
In Week 4, the website developers will be meeting with the School Board to discuss preferences in style, format and content, and from there the developers will take some time to start building our new page. We hope to have it running for the start of next year. Watch this space!
School Board
The next meeting is on Wednesday 2 November at 6:00 pm, and as mentioned above, will involve discussions around the new website design. All meetings are open to the community if you are interested in seeing first hand the work that a School Board does.
We have 1 Parent Representative position on the School Board that is currently vacant. The tenure runs from now until the end of 2023. You will need to be a parent at Scarborough Primary School until the end of 2023 to be eligible.
The Board’s role is required to help the school deliver a quality education experience to our children by:
- establishing and reviewing the goals, priorities and policies of the school at a strategic level;
- supporting the development of our School Business Plan;
- planning for and endorsing school budgets;
- evaluating the performance of our school in achieving the goals set; and
- promoting our school within the community.
So, if the description above peaks your interest we would love you to consider nominating. If you are interested please email Sarah.Dawson@education.wa.edu.au or express your interest in person at the front office. Nominations close at 3:00 pm, Monday 14 November 2022.
Should there be more than one nomination, all parents will be offered the opportunity to vote. Candidates will then be asked to provide a 250 word brief and a portrait style photograph to include on the voting slip. New members of the Board will undertake training and will have a mentor allocated to assist with induction onto the Board.
More information on the Board can be found on our current school website.
As always, if you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to call, or email me on Sarah.Dawson@education.wa.edu.au.
