St Mary's Bulletin

Term 4 - Week 1 (14 October, 2022)

Dear St Mary's School Community

Values in Focus: Respect

We value others, their property, the environment and ourselves.

Welcome Back

Welcome Back to Term Four!  I trust that you all had a wonderful holiday with your children.  The students and staff are all eager to be back for the last and busiest term of the year!  This year has certainly flown by!  Thank you for ensuring that your children are all in the correct summer uniform – our uniform sets us apart from other schools and wearing the uniform correctly, shows pride in our school community!

October

The month of October is chosen to honour the Holy Mother Mary, in thanksgiving for her protection that she gives the Church in answer to the praying of the rosary.

Fr Michael Casey

We offer our condolences to the family and friends of Fr Michael Casey who passed away recently.  Fr Michael was a past Parish Priest of Merredin and is responsible for changing the name of St Joseph’s School to St Mary’s School in line with the new Church that was being built (our current Church).  Having the Church and School with the same name meant that he could save money building the Church.  May Fr Michael Rest in Peace and May Perpetual light shine upon him.

T20 Blast Cricket

Today our Year Three - Six students participated in the T20 Cricket Carnival at Merredin College. Students were placed into teams and played 3-4 games of Cricket throughout the day. The students displayed excellent sportsmanship and it was a great day out. The team results will be featured in next week's newsletter.

CEWA Breakfast

This morning, Mrs Riethmuller and I represented St Mary’s School at the CEWA Staff breakfast.  Those present were addressed by Dr Debra Sayce (CEWA Executive Director), Eva Skira (Chair of CECWA) and the Hon.  Sue Ellery (MLC).  Following this, the QCE Awards were presented and recognition of those who have completed 30. 40 and 50 years of service with CEWA occurred.

Congratulations

At the end of Term Two the Year Six students entered the AFL Schools Design a Football Guernsey competition. The students had to design a guernsey that represented their community.  Congratulations to these two groups of students who received a certificate of recognition - Isabella Stones, Jasmine White and Skye Wilson and  was Ollie Creagh, Tomas Kraske Beck and Elijah Sutherland.

Administration Officer

The process for appointment is now complete and I would like to advise the school community that Mrs Jolene Lane will be the new Administration Officer.  Jo will continue to work in Pre-primary on a Monday and Tuesday.  Jasmin Holmes will continue to work in the office one day per week, supporting both Jo and Lorraine in the Office.  Congratulations Jo on your new appointment

Pastoral Care

We offer our condolences to Skye Olcorn (Ella – Year 3 and Jada – Pre-Primary) whose partner Thomas Parker passed away unexpectedly over the school holidays.  May Thomas Rest In Peace and May Perpetual Light Shine Upon Him.

God Bless and have a lovely weekend with your families.
