The Millsy Flyer

Monday 3rd April Term 1 Week 11

From the Principal

Student Success:

Congratulations to our students who competed in the school cross country last week! They did an amazing job and persisted with the distance! It was great to see our students supporting Harmony Day recently. All students engaged in lessons around diversity and acceptance of others. Good luck to Liam and Layla who are competing at the State Swimming Championships this week! Congratulations to Claire and Jessica who both were selected as finalists in the Lake Macquarie Young Archie portrait competition! Their artworks will be on display in the Lake Macquarie Museum of Art and Culture until 21 May. Well done!

Easter Hat Parade:

We are looking forward to seeing everyone at our Easter Hat Parade this Thursday at 12.15pm. Students should make their hats at home – please do not put real chocolate eggs on the hats as they do not survive long on a hot day!

Holidays:

Our school will be closed from this Thursday afternoon for the holidays. Thank you to everyone for a great term! Students return to school on Wednesday 26 April for Term 2.

Lunchtime Changes:

From this week, we will be trialling flipping our lunch time play and eating time. This trial will go for this week and into Term 2. Students will come out to lunch at the regular time and return to class at the regular time, however they will play first and eat during second half lunch. They will still have the opportunity to purchase food from the canteen.

Staff Development Day Term 2:

Monday 24 April will be the school’s staff development day for Term 2. Our school will be closed on this day while teachers engage in professional learning on Aboriginal Education.

Anzac Reminder:

A reminder that our students again have the opportunity to participate in the Anzac dawn service at Speers Point and the Anzac march at Valentine on 25 April. Please refer to the note sent home on Schoolbag with further details.

Staff Development Days Term 4:

This year, we will be rescheduling our Staff Development Days in Term 4 to have four after school sessions. Please note, that our school will be closed on Monday 18 and Tuesday 19 December as a result.

New P&C Executive:

The P&C Annual General Meeting was held last week and a new executive team have been elected. Congratulations to:

Aaron Jones – President

Nicole Briscoe – Vice President

David Summers – Vice President

Duncan Burck – Secretary

Committee Members- Amber Mackay, Amanda Hurst, Steve Leonard, Kim Hardy, Kasey  McGrath

The treasurer position is still vacant. If you are interested in helping out in this role, please contact the school or the P&C.

A huge thank you to the outgoing executive for your fantastic work in supporting our school!

The P&C have some wonderful events coming up this year, so keep an eye out for information in the newsletter and on Schoolbag.

Stage 2 PDHPE Fun Day

On Tuesday 4 April, Stage 2 (Years 3 & 4) will be having a PDHPE fun day.  Students will participate in a range of fun activities that celebrate their learning in the area of Personal Development, Health and Physical Education. They are encouraged to come out of uniform, with shoulders covered, sensible shoes (eg, joggers), and their school hat.

Library News

Congratulations to Dylan S who is the newest member of our student leadership team. Dylan only started at WBPS this year and was therefore, unable to nominate for School Librarian at the end of 2022. Over this term, Dylan’s leadership skills and potential has shone, and he was offered the opportunity of being part of our librarian team. Dylan is a great addition to our team, and we all look forward to the remainder of 2023 with our newest addition.

A reminder that overdue library books are still too high at present across all years. Please return books as soon as possible if a reminder note has been sent.

Information about our author visit and Book Parade/Grandparents Day/Education Week celebration to be held in Term 3 will be shared next term. Now is a great time to start thinking about Book Parade costumes – the theme this year is Read, Grow, Inspire

I hope everyone has a great Easter and enjoyable holiday – happy reading.
