Reflection

Loving God, We thank and praise you. Thank you for the gift of our children. Help us to set boundaries for them, and yet encourage them to explore. Give us the strength and courage to treat each day as a fresh start. May our children come to know you, the one true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. May your Holy Spirit help them to grow in faith, hope, and love, so they may know peace, truth, and goodness. May their ears hear your voice. May their eyes see your presence in all things. May their lips proclaim your word. May their hearts be your dwelling place. May their hands do works of charity. May their feet walk in the way of Jesus Christ, your Son and our Lord Amen.

Leadership and Management

Dear Family and Friends of Our Lady's School,

Remembrance Day Liturgy

On Monday morning we gathered as a school community to take time to remember those who had died or suffered for Australia's cause in all wars and armed conflicts. We thank our Year 1/2 students for leading us in prayer and to all the students for the manner in which they participated in this significant time of reflection.

Staffing Update

We have almost completed the employment of our teaching staff for 2019. The following staff have been appointed and have accepted teaching positions at Our Lady's for 2019: Foundation Teacher : Katie Lynch (currently teaching Performing Arts at Our Lady's) Teacher: Michelle Hayes (previously taught at St Francis Xavier Box Hill )

Class Placement

As we continue to plan for 2019 much thought is given by the staff to the class groupings each year. The staff at Our Lady's School appreciate the trust you place in us and spend considerable time in organising class groups that will support your child in their learning. I am happy to discuss the class placement of your child with you, based on educational grounds only. Please put your request in writing before 20th November. All requests will be treated confidentially and whilst I cannot guarantee that every request will be granted, we will endeavour to meet the needs of your child. You will be informed of your child's teacher and their class group in their end of year report.

Foundation Orientation

Foundation 2019 Orientation began two weeks ago when we welcomed the parents of the Foundation class of 2019. Today we welcomed the 2019 students for their second Transition to School morning. It is a very exciting time for families as they prepare for a child starting school. We welcome new families into our school and hope you enjoy being a part of our great community.

State Election 24th November Our Lady's Multi - Purpose Centre

We have been invited to host a State Election Polling Booth in the Multi-Purpose Centre on Saturday 24th November (8.00am-6.00pm). This is a terrific opportunity to welcome local residents to view our school setting and the fabulous resources that we provide. The PFA will be holding a sausage sizzle and cake stall and welcome those willing to lend a hand.

PEB / PFA Thank You Drinks

In gratitude to the PEB and PFA I would like to extend a warm invitation for drinks and supper on Thursday, November 29th from 7.00pm. Please RSVP via email to office@olsurreyhills.catholic.edu.au.

Family Carols Evening

We invite all families to join us for our end of year Family Carols Evening on Thursday 6th December at 5:30pm. The night is a time for all Parish/School families to gather together to sing along to favourite carols and catch up with friends. The students will lead the singing on the evening. We will be encouraging them to dress up with a 'touch of Christmas'. Bring a blanket to sit on or a fold up chairs, simply come along for a relaxed night to celebrate the years' end with a touch of Christmas spirit!

School Uniform

Coordinators Gabriel Sabljak, Stephanie Neuman & Krista Conroy will coordinate the School Uniform Shop in 2019. Krista will be the head of the team. A big thank you to Catherine Bergin and Victoria Balderanos for their generosity of spirit over many years. A reminder that fitting for the Year 6 jackets will take place on the 14th December.

Parish Education Board

Next Wednesday the 21st November, the PEB will meet for the last time this year. Can I take this opportunity to thank Rachel Macey and Andrew Jobling for their service to the school.

Nominations for the school board will be forthcoming.

Annie Engellenner

Principal

Principal for the Day

Last Wednesday Harry van der Pligt was principal for the day, an honour bestowed on him due to the Fete Silent Auction. Harry competently undertook the duties of a principal, sitting in the school office and troubleshooting any problems that arose. He visited the classrooms to check in on all the students, and his decision to provide icy-poles for each child proved to be a big hit. Well done Principal Harry!

School Fees

Thank you to all families who have settled their outstanding School Fee Account. There are still quite a significant number of accounts yet to be settled. All accounts must be finalised by Friday, December 7th. We would appreciate a prompt response because this income is integral to meeting our budget and maintaining our cash flow. If you need to speak to Fr Mark or myself regarding your situation, please be assured that all discussions are conducted in confidence.

Fees left outstanding beyond Friday, December 7th will be placed in the hands of our appointed debt collector.

School Uniform

Uniform Purchases - Electronic Banking is now available for the purchase of school uniforms and from the beginning of December, school uniform can only be ordered and paid for in this way. The email address for ordering uniforms is olsurreyhills.cdfpay.org.au (follow the links).

Our Lady's Musical Evening - Term 4 2018

The Our Lady’s Musical Evening will be held on Monday the 26th of November in the Multi-purpose room from 7:00pm until approximately 8:00pm .

This provides a valuable opportunity for students who learn a musical instrument to perform for family and friends.

We hope to see you there.

Yours sincerely,

Anne and Eve Jozsa.

Walk to School

Well done to OLPS students for participating in “Walk to School October”. Many students told me they don’t normally walk to school, but they were now. I hope you can walk to school regularly after this program. Some fun facts for you; we had 161 students out of 177 walk to school. They completed 1,976 walks. Our school received a large selection of sports equipment for our efforts, some of which our weekly raffle winners shared.

Thank you to our sports leaders, Tess, Curtis, James E, Henry, Eden, Elliot P, Tino and James B for coordinating exercises and meeting walkers at the school gates each day.

Sailing Program

Sailing On Monday the 12th of November: The 5/6s went sailing at Albert Park. Once we were there we learned many things about sailing like how to assemble and take the sails down. We also learned how to steer with the tiller and how to use the sails when we are on the water. We then took of to sail around Albert Park Lake. We were with partners and were on the water for about an hour. At first we were towed around the lake by our instructors who were in an engine boat. Then we were off to sail by ourselves. In the boat there were two jobs, one was the crew that focused on the sails and the wind and the other job was steering and controlling the tiller connected onto the boat. We all really enjoyed sailing and thought it was a new and fun experience and we can't wait to do it again! By Zoe & Bella.
