Education Week

On Tuesday 6 August we held our open day as part of Education Week with the theme Every Student Every Voice. Thank you to all of our amazing students, parents and carers who were able to attend the open day. Thank you to those parents and visitors who were able to come and share in the learning experiences of our students. The evidence of the learning occurring in each classroom was magnificent.  Thank you to the teachers who spent many hours over the previous weeks and weekends displaying the students work for the community to enjoy. Our Performing Arts groups provided outstanding entertainment for our community.  They showcased what can be achieved by our students and staff with hard work, determination and persistence. Well done everyone. Thank you to Mrs Maher and Mrs Marsden for their amazing organisation of what was a brilliant community celebration of learning day.

Book Fair

Part of our celebrations during Education Week was our Book Fair. It was great to see so many of our students passionate about reading and discussing their favourite titles and authors. Thank you to those community members who purchased books to donate to the library. Thank you to Mrs V-L. Smith and Mrs G. Kaur for their organisation of this year's successful event.  Thank you also to Mrs M. McDonald, Mrs E. Goodhew, Mrs N. Patrick, and Mrs J. Moore for assisting with the sales throughout the week.  Congratulations to our Book Fair display competition winners: Hunter M (KH), Mira D (1A), Tahunna-Rose H (3G), Ayeesha D (4G) and Ben A (5R).  Each of our winners received a $10 book fair voucher.

Cake Stall

WOW!! What an incredible display of visual candy before opening the boxes to find mouth-watering gastronomic masterpieces.  Our cake stall was something quite amazing.  Thank you to those students who assisted in the baking of these cakes.  We raised $2200 which will be used to increase the PE equipment and storage. Thank you students, staff and parents for making this a memorable event.  I look forward to next year’s creations. Thank you Mrs Keipert for organising this event and to the staff for their assistance in making it wonderfully successful.  Congratulations to our Cake Box competition winners: Mateo A (KH), Risha S (1/2S), Barry B (2D), Natalie F (3E), Sophie T (3/4M), Ridhi P (5N), and Isabelle McArthur (5/6C).  Each of our winners received a $10 book fair voucher.

Open Day truly was a fantastic day and a tremendous community success!

Beanies for Brain Cancer

Thank you to Mrs V-L. Smith for coordinating our Beanies for Brain Cancer.  The school raised just over $800 to donate to the Mark Hughes foundation.  Thank you to the community for supporting this initiative.

Community of School Art Project as part of The Ponds MADD (Music, Art, Drama, Dance) celebrations

As part of The Ponds Community of Schools Art project, Kellyville Ridge students were able to work with The Ponds High School students to create a collaborative sculpture representing what community means to our students.  This was a major display at the Ponds High School's MADD celebrations on Tuesday evening.  Thank you to Mrs Harrington and Mr Keary for coordinating this great opportunity.

Planning for 2020

I have already had to submit the anticipated numbers for KRPS for 2020. For families with children in years K-5 there is nothing you need to do if you intend on being at KRPS next year. Where I do need your assistance is if you know any families in our catchment area that are planning to enrol for 2020 but as yet have not done so. Please encourage them to do so as a matter of urgency. Submitting the numbers was the first step in planning for next year and these numbers impact the school's teach and overall staff allocation and funding so it is important to try and get an accurate indication where possible. Obviously things may change between now and the beginning of next year. Additionally, if you are planning to leave the school at the end of the year (this does not include the current year 6 students), please send the school an email with that information to assist with our planning.  Thank you for your assistance in ensuring our school can start the year resourced effectively.

Teacher Professional Learning

On our continuous journey for school improvement, our staff are involved in weekly Professional Learning sessions that align with our school plan and priorities. This Saturday 44 of our staff will be attending the iOnTheFuture conference at the new Lindfield Learning Village.  We will be part of workshops and masterclasses with world renowned Educationalist assisting us to further our capacity to meet the needs of our students and prepare them with the necessary skills for the ever-changing world they will enter into as adults. We know that they need more than just the ability to read and write -- today's constantly changing workforce and society shows that they must be able to master academic content, communicate and collaborate effectively, think critically, and become life-long learners.

Supporting students as they develop these skills, understandings, and mindsets often requires a shift in how we think about classroom learning and the competencies needed by teachers to facilitate that learning.  Thank you to all of our teachers who are giving up their Saturday with their own families to learn other ways in developing skills to ensure our KRPS students are set up for success.

Lego Donations Needed

To support the Edison robots the school has purchased with Earn and Learn points, we are seeking donations of Lego.  The Lego will assist the students in creatively constructing their robots.  All donations can be left at the front office.  Thank you in advance.

Save the Date: Saturday 30 November – 4pm - 8pm - Twilight Markets

If you are one of our families who has a small business that would like to support the Twilight Markets in the way of donations for Lucky Star stalls and raffles or holding a promotional stall, please contact the P&C Fundraising committee through the school.

Book Character Parade 2019

Next week we will be celebrating Book Week. Students from K-6 will participate in our Book Character Parade.  Parents are welcome to attend the parade and younger siblings may like to dress up too. It should conclude by recess.

The younger grades will parade with their buddies from their buddy class. We encourage the students to bring their book to carry or a sign so we know what character they are.

We encourage you to search on Pinterest for inexpensive costume ideas, look in the wardrobe for suitable clothing or use favourite costumes they may have at home. We look forward to seeing everyone dressed as their favourite story or book character they have enjoyed!

YEAR 6 HIGH SCHOOL EXPERIENCE

Year 6 students had the wonderful opportunity to visit The Ponds High School on Tuesday 13 August. During the day, students got to view an art exhibition showcasing work from TPHS students, including a collaborative community themed artwork created in conjunction with Riverbank, John Palmer and Kellyville Ridge Public Schools.

We were entertained by the MADD (Music, Art, Dance and Drama) performance where the Creative and Practical Arts Department presented dance items, band and strings groups, Glee choir songs and drama skits. Following the performance, our Year 6 classes attended ‘taster’ high school lessons including food technology, visual arts, history and mathematics. We are lucky to have such strong ties with our local high school and the students thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Bring on Year 7!
