Welcome to our first e- Chronicle. We are trialling this new way of delivering the weekly news to you to see how it works from our end and to see how you like it. Research shows that 90% of parents would like to be able to access their School’s newsletter via their mobile phone and this was not possible with the old Chronicle. We welcome your feedback on this new e - version
I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend of lovely sunny weather. I can’t believe it is Week 7 already – the term has rushed by. It has been a very busy term as usual with Primary boys undertaking their NAPLAN and REACH assessments, the School Athletics Carnival, Debating and Chess plus a myriad of excursions and incursions. We also celebrated Mother’s Day and took part in Pretty Flipped and we still have Professor Maths and a LEGO incursion in the next two weeks! Those parents who wish their boys to undertake the ICAS testing must contact Ms Gershon before the end of the term.
I was proud of our whole School approach to the Pretty Flipped Day we held last Friday. In a world where appearances mean too much, it is a valuable lesson to teach boys that it is what a person is like on the inside that is the most important thing. We enjoyed flipping our clothes and raised $302.40 for the Pretty Foundation. Well done Mr Gowland for organising this initiative.
Rehearsals for our upcoming School Concert, Peter Pan, are well underway with rubber swords being brandished, singing in every classroom and dancing in the hall. Mrs Black is in charge of the performance and props, Ms Bown takes on dance and choreography and our new music teacher Miss Oakes looks after the singing. It is going to be quite a show so mark Tuesday, September 3rd in your diaries as “Showtime”.
Thanks to the P&F we have recently purchased some new soccer goals for Saturday Sport, 2 sets of classroom novels (for Year 3 and Year 6) and a new set of whiteboards for Year 6. A date of September 21st has been set for the annual fundraiser which contributes much-needed funds for the School. I don’t know what they have planned yet but it will be great fun no doubt!
Sadly, I have attended two funerals in the last week in connection with Coogee Prep. Last Friday we farewelled Sharon Bartelme, the mother of ex Year 5 teacher Mr Carlos Bartleme. Yesterday it was the funeral of Robyn Renilson, the mother of the CPS Old Boys Union President Mr Brett Jowett and Grandmother to Old Boys Mackenzie and Mitchell Jowett. Our thoughts and prayers are with both families.

We are in the process of building a new website and trying out new ways of sending the Newsletter. Many of you like the PDF format as it is very easy to read in one glance. However research shows that 94% of parents would read their school newsletter on their mobile phone if they could. You must download the up-to-date version of Skoolbag Ap (the one with a backpack logo) in order to receive all updates and the e Chronicle. You need then sign up for your sons classdan another other relevant groups and ensure you turn your notifications on.

ICAS Tests
This year all Primary boys are sitting the REACH tests from UNSW Global. These are taking the place of ICAS which is a more challenging testing system. However, if you would like your son to still participate in the ICAS testing, he will be able to sit for Science, English and Maths. The cost is $14.50 per test.
Please let Ms Gershon kgershon@coogeeprep.nsw.edu.au know by the end of this term if you wish your son to take part.
