St John the Baptist Koo Wee Rup Newsletter

From the Principal

Principals Report

Dear Parents

St John the Baptist Feast Day: Today we celebrated our feast day with a prayer liturgy which was televised to each classroom. Thank you to Grade 3/4H for leading this liturgy with their beautiful singing.  Each class, engaged in special Feast Day activities with a focus on St John.

Pyjama Day: To finish off Term 2 with a little fun, the last day of Term (Thursday 24 June) will be a Pyjama Day. Children can come to school in PJ’s and a dressing gown if needed. Please be reminded that suitable fully enclosed footwear must be worn.

Reports/Parent Teacher Interviews: Semester one reports are being sent home tomorrow - reports for students not at school will be sent home with a sibiling or posted. May I suggest you wait until you can sit with your child to read the Report together. Focus on the Learning Intentions and General Comment, and explain why the Point Scale is different to normal.

Due to the impact of COVID-19 and the implementation of Remote Learning, staff have not had the opportunity to work alongside your child since Term One. In order to complete these reports, our staff have used direct assessment from Term One, together with evidence of learning during the period of Remote Learning.

Please be aware that the Point scale is an indication of 6 months growth, and as Term One only being 8 weeks of face to face time, our reporting format cannot reflect progress for this small period of time. Therefore, the curriculum scale will indicate that your child has remained at the same level as of December 2019.  This inconsistency will rectify itself in the December reports.

We have pushed the Parent Teacher Meetings out to Monday and Tuesday 3rd & 4th August. This allows teachers time to gather more evidence to better inform you of your child’s progress.

Restrictions: At this stage social distancing protocols for schools remain the same.  We will continue with our Drop-off and Pick-up procedures and will inform you when circumstances change. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Please Note:  It is important that ALL families complete the Care Monkey end of day advice EVERY DAY BEFORE 12noon even if your child is absent.

Water Bottles: A reminder that all children must bring a water bottle to school as drinks taps are not currently in use.

Bell Times Term 3: Our recess and lunch bell times will be altering from the beginning of Term 3, details of these times have been advised to all families via a letter sent with this newsletter or new times can be found in the parent information section of Skoolbag.

Long Service Leave: For the first two weeks of Term 3, I will be taking some Long Service Leave. During this time, Ms Danielle Kemp will be Acting Principal.

Regards

Chris Dortmans, Principal

News from the Classrooms

Junior News

And just like that Semester One is complete!

It has been a very different semester of school but also extremely rewarding. It has been lovely to see the students change and adapt to a new way of learning. We have all learnt a lot from this experience.

St John the Baptist Feast Day: Today we celebrated St John the Baptist. The students participated in an online liturgy in the classroom run by Mrs Hance. They also completed tasks about St John the Baptist in the classroom and enjoyed a sausage sizzle lunch.

Pyjama Day: To finish off the term we will be having a Pyjama Day on Thursday. Come dressed in your warmest PJ’s and enjoy a relaxing end to a very busy term. Don’t forget to pack a warm coat or jumper for playtime. Please be reminded that suitable fully enclosed footwear must be worn.

Thursday will also be your last Performing Arts lesson for the term and Mrs McFarlane has something very fun planned. Next term you will begin Visual Art with Mrs Bird.

Have a happy, safe and relaxing break!

Middle/Senior News

Congratulations to all students for getting through to the end of Term Two, we know it was a very long Term that had many challenges - not only Remote Learning, but Remote Learning and then transitioning back to school.

We would like to thank the students for their engagement as we revised concepts learned during Remote Learning over the last few weeks and for the way they re-entered their learning environment and engaged so beautifully with their peers.

Middle and Senior students should be proud of their success within Multiplication and Division as well as how they have written information reports, learning lots of new and interesting facts. A special well done to the Senior students who are finishing and presenting their Saint projects in preparation for their Confirmation.

The Victorian State Government has announced a community consultation opportunity regarding Remote Schooling through an online survey.

School Fee Payments

All families who are experiencing financial pressures as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic have the opportunity to apply for a concession relating to their Term 2 2020 school fees.

Fee payers requesting consideration for fee relief should contact either Chris Dortmans or Nancy Rintoule to discuss their school fee obligations.

School fees are an essential portion of resources for the operation of our school and assist our leaders and staff to enhance curriculum and teaching programs.  We therefore ask that those able to support the school financially continue to do so.
