Term 2 Week 2 Newsletter 2022

From the Principal

Dear Parent / Carer,

Thank you all for the amazing start to Term 2 that we have had. Although the temperature has dropped, we are currently enjoying the sunshine and the freedom to be outside and run about.

COVID Update

Change to close contact isolation requirements. On 20 April the NSW Premier announced that from 6pm 22 April 2022, close contacts (including household contacts) could leave home isolation with certain restrictions. The announcement means that from Week 1 of Term 2, students and staff who are identified as close contacts will be able to attend school with the following risk mitigations in place:

You must notify the school and/or early childhood education (ECE) service provider (including their outside of school hours care provider) if you are intending to return to school.

You/your child should conduct a daily rapid antigen test (RAT) and receive a negative result each morning before attending school for 5 subsequent school days as part of your personal responsibility to minimise the risk of transmission.

Staff members and high school students must wear a mask indoors at all times except when eating or exercising. Primary school students are recommended to wear a mask indoors at all times (except when eating or exercising).

No student or staff member identified as a close contact will be permitted to participate in overnight excursions, including school camps.

Students and staff in SSPs or support classes or utilise assisted transport who are identified as close contacts must not attend school during this time.

Visitors in contact with students including volunteers, allied health partners and staff providing professional learning who are close contacts should conduct a daily RAT and return a negative result before attending a school or ECE site. They must also wear a mask indoors at all times (except when eating or exercising) if they are 12 years old or over. If attending a school site and interacting with students for an extended period of time, the visitor should advise the school that they are a close contact.

In line with these changes, students with health conditions should speak with their treating medical practitioner or specialist to review their health support plan or COVID-19 action plan and speak with the school around any local considerations.

If you require more Rapid Antigen Tests please contact the school and remember to notify us if you are a close contact.

    Easter Hat Parade

On Friday 29 April, we finally got the opportunity to hold our Easter hat parade and special sausage sizzle. It was wonderful to see all of the reused, recycled and repurposed hats. Thank you to all of the students who bought and sold Easter raffle tickets The senior students have already received reductions to their senior camp fees, because of your generosity. Congratulations to the winners. (Photos in the next edition)

    School Starting Time

Just a reminder that school officially begins at 8.30am. We have a special arrangement for students who catch the early bus to sit quietly on the veranda until a staff member comes on duty. All other students should try to plan their arrival for 8.30 or after.

We have had an awesome week this week and the entire school was really happy to be here. This is evident in the short video of the concert I received on the playground this week from three of our Kindergarten students (see below) and a visit from a very friendly echidna. Have a wonderful and safe weekend.

    Regards,

    Ms Greta Lewis

    P&C Mother's Day Stall

Thank you to our wonderful P&C Volunteers for ensuring that our children have a special gift to give their special people on Sunday. This year the P&C supplied brown paper bags for the children to decorate as part of their gifts. They looked great heading out the gate this afternoon. I would like to wish all the special ladies in our children's lives a very Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day to all our special ladies

    New Furniture

In the holidays we took delivery of a lot of new furniture in our school. The lucky recipients were Year 2 Kookaburra and Year 3 Wonga Wonga. These classrooms are now stocked with matching furniture and appropriate storage solutions. We are certainly making great progress ensuring each room has future focused learning spaces that are easily adaptable for all learning tasks. This term Years 4/5 Walabi and 5/6 Cooinda will also receive some new furniture.

    ANZAC Day Services

At the end of last term we held out school ANZAC service where we were joined by special guest Mr Mongo Delamont. Mrs Dammerel organised a respectful and reverent service, where students were encouraged to lay a floral tribute and wear family members medals.

On Saturday 23rd April, I had the pleasure of marching along side our students in the Jamberoo ANZAC march. Miss Alpen, Mrs Behl-Shanks and Miss Watchers marched with students in Kiama on Monday 25 April.

Thank you to Mrs Downes for providing our beautiful commemorative wreath, which was laid at the Jamberoo memorial.

Thank you also to the 31 students and families who attended during the holidays and Mr Kirk who provided water and lemonade icy poles.
