Month of Mary
Another week of learning at OLSH is underway this week as we settle into Term 2. May is the month of Mary, in the Catholic Church. The month commenced on Monday with a Para Liturgy in the MSC Hall. Various activities will take place for P - 12 during the month concluding with a Procession around the School Quadrangle at the end of the month.
7-12 Parent/Teacher Interviews
The Year 7 - 12 Parent and Teacher interview session last Wednesday afternoon was well attended. In addition to our Parents/Guardians attending, our Boarders were afforded the opportunity to meet with their teachers, accompanied by our Boarding House Supervisors.
Term 2 Assessment Period
The Assessment period for Term 2 commences next week, Week 3. Parents and Guardians are encouraged to spend some time with their child/ren planning how they are going to manage their time to enable them to meet the submission due dates. Late submissions do have a penalty applied.
Mock Exams for Year 8, 10 & 12
Preparation for the Year 8, 10 & 12 Examinations commence in earnest this week, with Grade 10 sitting their Mock 1 Written Expression on Thursday. In addition, our Grade 11 students are scheduled to sit their DAT (Differential Aptitude Test) on Monday the 08/05/2023. All Grade 11 students are expected to be at school to complete this important activity. This is an important task to be completed in preparation for offers to Tertiary study.
Staff Movement
As we have had some movement in staffing during the past months in the High School, there will be some additional adjustment to the Timetable. I will give a further update next week when the new timetable is released.
Practice Healthy Habits
A reminder to all that good rest and nutrition is an essential component for students to be ready for their school day. Please ensure of sufficient sleep. This generally is a good 10 hours a night for growing and developing children. Limit screen time, especially an hour before sleeping. This may involve removal of electronic devices from the bedroom. Good nutrition is also a key to good learning. This means a good energy packed breakfast to start the day. Along with a good healthy lunch to get through the day. Unfortunately, I am still seeing students arriving at school consuming soft drinks and snack foods.
As is always the case at OLSH, should you have questions, comments or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact the school via the Reception to have your matter referred to the correct person to assist. As a favourite saying of mine goes; “Talk to the Butcher and not the Block!” This approach can avoid potential confusion and misinformation.
I trust you all have a Blessed weekend.
Best regards,
Mr Geoff Jackson
