St Mary's Bulletin

Term 3 - Week 1 (22 July, 2022)

Dear St Mary's School Community

Values in Focus: Faith

We believe strongly in God and in each other.

Welcome Back

Welcome Back to Term Three!  I hope that you all had an enjoyable and relaxing holiday.  It is great to be back – I had a wonderful long service leave as our family welcomed my nephew Nic – I managed to get in lots of cuddles and spent precious time with him.  I appreciate that Term Two was very challenging as St Mary’s dealt with COVID and the disruption and unpredictability that it brought with it.  Thank you to Mrs O’Malley for managing everything so well in my absence and to all the staff for their hard work and dedication, in what were trying circumstances.  Hopefully Term Three brings with it a different rhythm.

Welcome

I extend a warm welcome to Mr Daniel Siciliano who is completing his final teaching practicum in the Year 3/4 classroom.  Please make Daniel feel welcome if you see him around.

Welcome back to Mrs Stacey Kermode who is returning to St Mary’s until the end of the year as an Education Assistant, taking on Mrs Discenza’s workload.  Mrs Discenza will be primarily providing support in Year 4/5 until the end of the year.

We welcome the Marshall (Mason) family who have joined us as part of the Three Year Old Program.  We also welcome the Shah (Jessie) and Mustafa (Muhammad) families who both join us in Year One.  We hope that your time as part our community is one that you will treasure.

Website

Have you visited the St Mary’s website lately?  If not, click here and add it to your favourites.  Everything you need to know about St Mary’s School can be found here including the Parent Handbook, up to date term planners and all the Newsletters and Bulletins for the year.  The school website and Skoolbag are the main vehicles of communication for the school and should be your first point of call in the event that you require information or clarification.

Save the Dates

There are a number of parent workshops planned for this term.  We are lucky to be able to present the Triple P program to our families on August 10, 24 and September 7 (all Wednesdays) at 9.00am, in the Library.  The P&F will also be presenting an evening with Josh Langley (WA Author) who is our Book Week Guest Speaker on Tuesday, 23 August.  Information about the Triple P  program is attached below for your information.  Further information about Josh's presentation will come out closer to the time - be sure to put the date in your diary!

COVID19 Update

As Premier Mark McGowan has recently communicated, WA is seeing an increasing number of cases of COVID-19 in the community due to the BA.4 and BA.5 Omicron subvariants. While the Chief Health Officer has said that this should not be cause for alarm, we are being encouraged not to become complacent in taking preventative measures to stop the spread of COVID-19, including the wearing of masks.

You would have all received the cross-sectoral letter yesterday, encouraging students to wear masks to schools and for parents to wear them at school when they are in an enclosed space (room).  Please encourage your child to wear a mask to school.  Masks are an effective measure to lessen the risk of both spreading and becoming infected with COVID-19.  We would like to avoid a repeat of Term Two at St Mary's, if we can.

Please continue to register your child’s COVID-19 results via the CEWA Self-Reporting Portal and any positive COVID-19 RAT results on the WA Health RAT Register, as is required by the WA Government.

GEMS/Leaders Forum

The Leadership Team will be attending GEMS and the Leaders Forum in Kalgoorlie on Monday and Tuesday.  Miss Walsh and Mrs Grant will be responsible for the school in our absence.

God Bless and have a lovely weekend with your families.
