Students have been extremely busy over the past week. Our main focus in writing has been making sure our sizzling starts are packing the punch required for our audience to continue reading. In Maths this week we have been looking at the different strategies involved with addition and subtraction. The homework task that are sent home are reinforcing what we are teaching in the classroom. It is not compulsory to complete homework. For the older students it is a great habit before you start Highschool of revising your work so that you are prepared for upcoming assessment tasks.
Crunch and Sip- at 10am each day we stop for crunch and sip. This is not an opportunity to eat fruit bars, yoghurt, chips or biscuits. It is an opportunity to have a drink of water as well as eat a piece of fruit. It is not a feast, just a short transition from Maths to English. Please provide your child with a piece of fruit.
Clean Up Australia Day- Schools Clean Up Day (Friday 3rd March 2023) is a fun and engaging way to teach the students of Bribbaree Public School about the responsible disposal of rubbish, resource recovery and the repercussions of rubbish dumped irresponsibly in the local environment. We have been provided with a starter pack of materials, as well as learning resources to supplement the hands-on experience of the Clean Up. We will be taking a walk around the street picking up any rubbish along the way.
Movie Blueback- The Hilltops Council have invited Bribbaree Public School as part of the ‘Off the Beaten track’ initiative to attend the Australian Movie ‘Blueback’ at the Young Cinema next Wednesday. This is the story of young Abel Jackson and his mother, Dora. Growing up in Longboat Bay, Abel and his mother have a love of the ocean and the creatures that inhabit it. Inspired by a large groper fish that calls the bay home, Abel and Dora strive to protect the region from developers and greedy fishermen. I would like to thank the Hilltops Council for providing the school with this great experience. A permission note has been placed into Skoolbag.
Swimming Carnival- Thankyou to the students who participated in the Young Small Schools swimming carnival. Although we had no students make it to District our swimmers swam to the best of their ability and represented the school proudly.
Sport Shirts- Last Thursday the sport shirts arrived and the students looked amazing in them. Please remember that these shirts are for sport days (Friday) only and they are not to be worn during the week. If you could please finalise payments for the shirts to the office that would be greatly appreciated.
Gymnastics- The Gymnastics program is progressing well under the guidance of our Gymnastics Teacher Mr Nathan Kerr. As part of the Young Small Schools collaborative approach to utilising expertise within a particular area the students will be showcasing gymnastics to each small school for Friday sport later in Term 2. The students will be showcasing the skills required to undertake the program as well as help peers participate in the lesson. The day will culminate with a shared lunch with the host school. More information as well as dates will be provided early in Term 2.
Athletics Carnival- The Young Small School athletics carnival is just around the corner. Before school and each lunchtime over the coming weeks we will be focussing on a different event to improve the students’ techniques. We will also be looking at fitness levels as well as pre and post times as indicators for improvement and growth over the coming weeks. This will also help with our preparation for cross country in Term 2.
Reminder- Home Readers- Please send home readers back each day to be changed. We are getting into a routine of changing readers each morning.
Friday Swimming- Last week we concluded our swimming for sport with Quandialla and Caragabal. The progress the students have taken form this swimming program has been amazing. We all enjoyed the sausage sizzle and we will countdown the days until we start the Learning To Swim Program later in Term 4. A big thankyou to Miss Darcy and Mrs Kelly for providing expert advice to all the swimmers on stroke technique and breathing.
P&C Meeting- The next P&C meeting will be held in the office @ 6pm on Monday the 20th March.
Creative Arts Day- Please book in for a workshop on the day by contacting the office or leave a message on the school mobile. By registering before the day will help out with resources, materials and catering purposes. The workshops that will be on offer range from;
· Digital green screen
· Circus Arts
· Brushes in the Bush
· Waste to Art competition- cash prizes to be won
All workshops will start at 10am.
Hats are to be worn Term 1 and Term 4. No hat no play!
Water Bottle – Please ensure your child brings a water bottle to school each day.
NAPLAN-This year NAPLAN will fall in week 8. NAPLAN assesses the literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through the school curriculum and allows parents/carers to see how their child is progressing against national standards and over time. NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process. It doesn’t replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance, but it can provide teachers with additional information about students’ educational progress.
Being Brave- This week in PDHPE we have been talking about being brave not only in class and the playground but also in life.
I love the analogy of the Baby Bird about to leave the nest for the first time.
Baby Bird looking over the nest to the ground- ‘Mum what if I fall’
Mother Bird- ‘What if you fly’
