From the Principal

Dear Parents,

It is very exciting to welcome our new Kindergarten teacher, Mrs Angela Hardie.  Angela comes to us with a wealth of experience, having taught Preschool to Year 2 for more than 10 years.  Angela is very excited to be joining us and will start the transition process from this Wednesday.  Miss Currie's last day will be this Thursday as she will be going on leave for her wedding and then starting her first permanent job at Rosebank Public School. We would like to thank Lauren for her work and dedication to Modanville Public for many years. She has made a difference to the lives of so many of our students.  Good Luck Lauren!

Unfortunately I have to announce that our Before School Care is no longer available.  We have not had enough numbers to keep this service open.  After school care is still be available if you are interested.  Please don't hesitate to contact the school if this situation adversely effects you.

Attendance is very important for all students.  The Department of Education encourages students to attend school on an every day basis.  If a child misses 8 days  of each school term, by the end of their primary schooling they would have missed an entire year of school.  Poor attendance hampers students progress and often leads to students falling behind their peers.  Modanville Public School is using an SMS texting system to ensure we have the details about absent days. The Department of Education discourages family holidays to be taken during the school term.  Therefore, unfortunately, we are unable to approve holidays in school terms, however we appreciate communication from parents if they will be away so the school can assist by preparing some work for when the family is away.

Early in Term 1 Alison Elliott and I traveled to Sydney to take part in the Quality Teaching Rounds.  Modanville Public School has received $10,000 from the University of Newcastle to enable teachers to complete observations and critique classroom practice.  This has been highly successful through many schools in improving students outcomes.

At the moment there are a lot of insects around. Students are allowed to bring their own roll-on insect repellent but we ask them not to share in case of allergic reactions.  Please label with your child's name.

In 2020 our Non-denominational Christian scripture will be offered on Wednesday afternoons, 2.45-3.15pm.

Kind Regards

Kerry

SRC Easter Raffle

The SRC is running the annual Easter raffle this term, which is a major fundraiser for the SRC. Money raised is put towards various programs and activities chosen by the SRC to support school initiatives.

The raffle will be drawn on Wednesday 8th, 2020

The Easter Hat Parade will also occur on this day.

We are asking each family to donate Easter eggs/treats (various sizes please) which the SRC will assemble into prize bundles. Or it would also be useful if you would like to donate some cellophane paper to wrap the bundles of eggs in.

Egg/treat/wrapping paper donations are to be dropped to the office by Monday 30th March so that the SRC can package into bundles.

If you do not want to sell raffle tickets, that is fine. Just return the unsold tickets to school.

Thank you, SRC

After School Care

After School Care

After School Care hours from 3:15 - 6:15pm.

Child Care Subsidy can reduce the cost to as little as $3.50 a session, once the subsidy is applied and approved.

Please contact 6621 6437 for more information.

Please check/update your child's Bus application online

Message from bus proprietors:

Thank you to all parents who have applied for their child/ren to travel on the bus or updated any details that have changed.

There are several students catching the bus that are not on our list i.e. parents have not completed School Student Transport Scheme (SSTS) online forms or updated them for a while.

Is it possible to send out a request for all parents to review their students details online (not just kinder students).

This is important to ensure the safety of all students if there was any incidents.

Also it is important that numbers correspond with TfNSW and for future business proposals to continue to improve our service.
