PRAYING LENT

Lord Jesus, May our lives this day bring us to a deeper awareness of your presence amongst us.

May we be moved by heartfelt mercy to take action wherever possible on behalf of all who suffer.

We ask that your justice may reign in our world.

Amen.

Dear Parents, Parishioners, Carers, Staff & Students,

Condolences

Our sincere condolences go out to the Brittain-Watts family (Amala in Foundation) on the passing of Rhea’s grandmother last week.

Swimming Sports

The Warrnambool, Portland and Hamilton Schools’ Swimming Championships will take place on Friday. We wish the following students well as they represent St Patrick’s:

Maisie Henderson,  Mia Hetherington,  Emily Leddin,  Amalia Little, Isabella Little,   Sarah Macmillan ,Alice Macpherson, Charlie Murray, Poppy Myers, Ondine Serong,  William Verhoef

Folk Festival

Thank you to everyone who assisted in any way with the Folk Festival last weekend. The proceeds from our BBQ and camping provide a significant part of our fundraising for the year and this would not be possible without the efforts of many of our parents. The BBQ money also funds our annual Artist in Residence program, so every child in the school gains benefit.

St Patrick’s Day

We will be celebrating the feast of St Patrick, our school’s patron saint, next  Tuesday March 17th.

The program for the day is as follows:

9.15am Harmony Day activities - class groups

10.30am Liturgy in the hall (prepared and led by Yr 3/4)

11.00am Morning tea

11.30 Fish and chip lunch

12pm KABOOM sports

2.20pm St Patrick’s Has Talent - student talent show in the hall

Families, parishioners and community members are very welcome to join us for some or all of the day’s activities.

Children can wear something green or their sports uniform and need to wear runners on their feet.

Doshisha Visit

Next week we were to host students from Doshisha Elementary School in Japan at St Patrick’s. Due to the current world health issue of the Coronavirus COVID-19, it has been decided to cancel this visit and the return visit of students from the Warrnambool and District Catholic Schools Network to Japan that was to take place in September. Since this decision was made, government and Catholic Education authorities have banned overseas travel for school groups. We look forward to resuming further connections with Doshisha Elementary School into the future.

COVID-19 (coronavirus)

Our school community is continuing to follow the national public health guidelines and current information from the Australian Chief Medical Officer and Victorian Chief Health Officer in relation to the COVID-19 outbreak. At the present time there is no evidence of transmission in the community in Victoria so we have been advised  to go about our school business as usual.

As a precaution, we are following the Health Officer advice about effective hygiene and the Australian Bishops’ advice about celebrations of mass. The Department of Health and Human Services recommend Ten ways to reduce your risk of coronavirus.

If you or your child come into contact with COVID-19, please contact me so that we can be proactive in assessing the risk in relation to our school community.

If your child becomes ill with cold or flu-like symptoms, please keep them at home until you are able to seek medical advice.

3/4W NEWS

Last week we participated in Folkie workshops run by ‘The Connected Circus’ with Vern and Bec. The workshop was based on creativity and movement. Here is what we loved about the session:

Tilly: I loved performing lots of different tricks. My favourite was the hula hoop.

Hudson: I loved performing with ‘The Connected Circus’. My favourite activity was the trick sticks because I like to do fun tricks.

Emily: I liked playing with my friends and using the slinky on our arms. We were able to do lots of cool tricks with it.

Jack: I enjoyed being able to participate in all of the circus tricks however my favourite was the hula hoop. I can’t wait for next year.

Swimming Finals

This week, Alice Macpherson, Ondine Serong, Mali and Bella Little, Charlie Murray, Will Verhoef, Poppy Myers, Mia Hetherington, Maisie Henderson, Emily Leddin and Sarah Macmillan are competing in the Division Swimming Championships in Warrnambool.  We wish them the best of luck.

Congratulations Ella Jarrold.

Year 6 student Ella Jarrold last week came runner up in the Division Tennis Finals.  Ella won three of her preliminary four matches. Ella then won her semi final to make the final but was unable to defeat Ella Cook from Our Lady Help of Christians.  It was a great effort for Ella and as a result of being a finalist she qualified to compete at the Regional Championships in Ballarat which are upcoming. Great effort Ella and good luck at the Regionals.
