Term 3 Week 10

Message from the Principal

What an incredible term!! We have had a great time being able to welcome families back to join us in school activities and we have had a lot of things to celebrate for students, staff and parents. The downfall of having such an exciting term is that the time seems to fly past so quickly as we prepare for the next event. I hope that everyone is able to take some time to reflect back on Term 3 and the beautiful memories we have made together. One thing I know for sure, is that Term 4 is notoriously the busiest term of all, and before we know it we will be finishing the year. I am so excited that we will be able to finish this year with a fantastic School Concert at Corrimal High School. Be sure to keep November 28 free, you don't want to miss the dance spectacular.

This last week of term, I was very fortunate to be able to attend the Stage 3 camp to Bathurst. What a wonderful experience this was. I am very grateful to be able to share this milestone event and to watch the students enjoy themselves outside of the school environment. The students were exemplary in their enthusiasm and behaviour and perfectly demonstrated what it means to be a ToPS student. Our students are well prepared for their upcoming transition to High School and show the characteristics of being outstanding citizens in society. Their absolute kindness and respect shown towards others is a beautiful thing to witness. Well done, Stage 3. I hope each and every one of you feel proud of who you are. Thank you also, to the wonderful staff who made the camp possible- Mr Santos, Mr Langford, Mrs Ellis and Miss McElhone. I hope you all had great fun too.

Finally, I want to wish everybody a very safe and happy holiday. School holidays are a time to rest, recover and rejuvenate in preparation for the term ahead. I hope you are all able to enjoy time with family and that there is plenty of sunshine to be able to enjoy the beautiful place in which we live. School resumes for all staff and students on Monday 10 October.

Stage 3 Camp to Bathurst

40 Stage 3 students and 5 staff members travelled to Bathurst to learn about the Goldrush and it's impact on the colony. Students enjoyed panning for gold (no one made their fortune), learning about life on the goldfields, treasure hunting in a muddy cemetery, learning about bushrangers and building friendships along the way. A famous quote heard on camp was, 'I can't hear with this mask on!'

Stage 3 Gala Day

Gala Day Stage 3 students recently attended a basketball gala day organised by the Illawarra Hawks at the Snake Pit. The day was lots of fun and our students all competed hard but fairly. In fact, we received a number of comments from other teachers and Hawks staff about the excellent behaviour and sportsmanship of our students. Thank you to Mr Langford for organising our participation in this event.

Stage 2 Gala Day

On Friday, 2nd of September students from Stage Two attended a Basketball Gala Day at the Snake Pit, Beaton Park. The students were able to play in round robin style games with the stadium's umpires providing assistance to students where needed, to help develop their game skills. The most competitive game of the day by far was the Towradgi A team versing the Towradgi B team where they battled it out for glory against their peers. All Towradgi students showed wonderful manners during the Gala day. The girl's basketball team were even commended on their kindness by a staff member from another school. The students all had a fantastic day and showed great sportsmanship throughout.

CHS Taster Day

Recently our year 4 students attended Corrimal High School to experience a taste of what high school is like. The students were amazed by how different the school was, luckily, we had two friendly students guiding our group as we toured the school. Students got to meet lots of different teachers and participated in five subjects: English, agriculture, physical education, history and STEM. They learnt a bunch of new things about William Shakespeare, animals, teamwork, Ancient Egypt and technology. We all had such a great time and enjoyed getting a taste of what high school is like. Everyone left the day with a huge smile and even some prices!

Kindergarten Orientation 2023

On Wednesday 14th September our 2023 Kindergarten students joined us for their first orientation to 'big' school. The children had a wonderful afternoon of play, stories, craft and singing. They learnt how to make and be good friends and the importance of taking turns. The teachers were extremely impressed with how excited and settled the children were. We are all looking forward to having everyone join us again next term, on Wednesday 19th October at 1:30pm.

School Run4Fun Colour Explosion

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Thank you so much for supporting our school, especially through fundraising. This term, we are hosting a Colour Explosion School Fun Run to help us fundraise for Year Six farewell and gift to the school. To achieve our goal, we need to raise $2000 as a school community.

When is the Colour Explosion School Fun Run? We will be hosting our Colour Explosion School Fun Run on Friday 28 October from 2pm to 2:40pm. Make sure students bring a WHITE shirt to wear during the Fun Run. They will be covered in non-toxic, biodegradable colour powder from head to toe!

Is the powder safe? The non-toxic colour powder is made of high-quality corn starch and permitted food colours, so it’s safe for skin and eyes. Students with asthma are advised to be careful in their decision to participate.

How does my child fundraise? Fundraising is easy – simply follow the instructions outlined in your child’s sponsorship booklet. Your child can accept donations online by creating a cybersafe fundraising profile at www.australianfundraising.com.au . You can also collect cash donations with your sponsorship booklet. Please return your donations before 21 October 2022.

Raise more! Earn more! Students automatically achieve incentive prizes as they fundraise, starting from $10. Each prize is ordered automatically, so you don’t need to worry about prize ordering! You can see what the incentive prizes are in the attached sponsorship booklet.

Share in $200,000 worth of extra prize credit! Achieve bigger prizes by helping your child earn bonus credit on their online profile. By creating an avatar, sharing your page with friends and reaching milestone donations, you can share in $200,000 of extra prize credit!

Monstar Madness. There are heaps of prizes you can win when you fun-raise with Monty! Create your fundraising page in the next 7 days, and you will receive a Holographic Monty Sticker! Check out your sponsorship booklet for more awesome Monty prizes up for grabs, like a Monty Plush toy, a bag tag or a high-bounce handball!

Kindergarten 2023 Orientation

P and C message

Tuesday was another great hybrid P&C meeting.  We were blessed to have Miss Emms and Mrs Kelly present on our stage 3/4 integration to inclusion class.  We hope the opportunity arises for those of you who missed hearing about it on Tuesday.

There are a few opportunities for parents and carers that came out of Tuesday night:

1. The school would like a few parent volunteers to sit on a uniform committee to look at a new uniform for our school.  Please contact the P&C or school if you are interested.

2. We have the opportunity to start a community vegetable garden onsite potentially funded by Rotary.  We have a couple of volunteers and probably need another couple who can sit on the project team, coordinating the what, how, when etc.  Anyone will be able to volunteer but the project team will need to lead this project to ensure it succeeds.

3. We discussed holding a Halloween disco at the school to be led by Stage 1 parents in collaboration with the P&C. This will be a great opportunity to connect with parents, at a fun event.  Please get in contact by email or on our Facebook page if you would like to help with the organising.

Next P&C meeting: Tues Oct 11 at 7pm

Venue: Corrimal High School (TBC)Zoom will be an option for those who cannot make it physically

SAVE THE DATE: Tuesday November 8 will be our AGM.  The AGM is an opportunity to do a wrap up of the year and to vote in executive members for next year.  All positions will be open including: President; 2x Vice President; Treasurer; Secretary; Fundraising and sustainability subcommittees.  You can read about responsibilities in the files section of our Facebook page. Please note you must be a current financial member to vote.  To become a financial member please join our October meeting and bring a gold coin.

Wishing you all a great weekend, Jo Ubilla (President) on behalf of the P&C executive teamContact us: jubilla13@gmail.comhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/TOPSPC
