Issue 33 - Term 4, Week 4 - Monday 4th November 2019

A Message from the Principal

Kindergarten Orientation

Our last Orientation session is this week. We have loved having so many excited children each week, learning about their new school, getting to know the teachers and making new friends. We cannot wait to have another fun filled session with our new students on Wednesday 6th November at 9:15am.

Gate Closure

From next Monday 11th November we will be padlocking the gate between the carpark and the Kindergarten playground. We have had increased safety concerns with students and parents crossing through the car park to get from one side of the school to the other. As you can all appreciate we want to maintain the highest levels of safety for all our students. For parents dropping children to YMCA in the morning and afternoon, you will now need to walk past the office to get to the buildings for pick up. We understand that this may cause some initial frustration while we all get used to this new procedure, however, the long term safety gains for our students far outweigh any negatives. I appreciate your support in this matter.

High Achievers

A big congratulations and good luck to Jules Cross who is competing at the State Debating Championships this week. Good luck to our students who are competing at the State Athletics Championships on Thursday. Well done Emily Hartland, Miriam Gauld, Kalani Godinet, Annabelle James and Isabella Muc. Hammondville Public School are proud of all of you.

P & C Fundraisers

I would like to acknowledge the wonderful work our P&C do in organising, running and promoting many fundraisers across the year. Our school is very lucky to have such dedicated members of our parent body that strive to raise much needed funds for school improvement. Over the next few months you will start to see lots of additional extras being added to the school, particularly in the playground. Without commitment and support of funds from the P&C these works would not be possible. The financial support the P&C offer the school through contributions is invaluable and that comes back to our families who support all the fundraisers that are held. Through our Colour Run we raised $4771, through the Silver Coin Challenge $700 was raised and the Halloween Disco brought in $1381. Well done Hammondville and a big thank you to our P&C. If you would like to be a part of the P&C or find out what goes on behind the scenes we will be holding our monthly meeting tonight in the library at 7pm.

Grandparents Day

Next Thursday 14th November we will be holding our Grandparents Day celebration at 1:00pm. This is a wonderful time to celebrate and acknowledge the powerful and important relationships our students have with their grandparents and grandfriends. Grandparents are a delightful blend of laughter, caring deeds, wonderful stories and love.” - Unknown

Leavers and New Enrolments

As we are nearing the end of the year and begin planning for 2020, I urge all families to please tell the office as soon as possible if you will be leaving or if you have family or friends moving to the area who may want to enrol at Hammondville. If you are going on holidays and will be returning after the 29th January 2020, please contact the office as we will require families to indicate in writing the intended return date, so we can include your children in our numbers. The sooner we know our enrolment numbers the sooner we can begin class formations and staffing arrangements for 2020.

Positive Stars Week 3

I had the lovely opportunity to see many students across the school last week for producing excellent work, demonstrating outstanding work habits and being exceptional learners. Well done to the following students on being Positive Stars in Week 3. Josie and Mia in K Red, Tahlia, Toby, Jarryd and Lucy in K Blue. Keep up the great work and I can’t wait to see more students this week.

Have a wonderful week of learning!

General Information

School Office Hours of Operation

Our school office hours are 8:30am to 3:15pm.

EFTPOS Payments can be made between 8:45am - 9:00am and 2:30pm - 3:00pm.

Student Absences

The Education Act requires that a reason is provided to the school within 5 days of the occurrence of a student absence.

If your child is absent from school please notify us via Skoolbag or drop a note/medical certificate in our secure letterbox on the outside of the office wall. Do not send absent notifications to the class teacher via Class Dojo.

Late Arrival/ Early Departure

All students who are late to school must come via the office to receive a late pass, which is then to be handed to their teacher.

If you are picking up your child early from school you must visit the office first to receive an early departure pass, which you then give to your child’s teacher.

 Toileting Accidents

If your child is prone to toileting accidents please ensure that spare underwear and school clothes are kept in their bags.

If your child does borrow clothes from our school please ensure the clothes are washed and promptly returned to the office.

Nut Free Recommendation

Due to severe allergies of some students at Hammondville Public School, we do recommend that parents not send their children to school with nut products, eg muesli bars, peanut butter, nutella etc.

P&C Payments

All payments to the P&C must be CASH ONLY and in a separate envelope to school payments.

Attendance / Absence

The legalities of compulsory school attendance

In Australia, regular school attendance is compulsory between the ages of 6-17. Children of compulsory school age MUST attend school every day that school is open for instruction

It is important to understand that the New South Wales Department of Education may prosecute parents (including carers) if children of compulsory school age have recurring numbers of unjustified absences from school.

If you would like to read more about compulsory school attendance, or read documents in another language please follow this link: http://www.schools.nsw.edu.au/languagesupport/language/index.php

Kindergarten Enrolments 2020

If you have a younger child who is due to start school next year and you have not yet enrolled them could you please contact the office as soon as possible. The sooner we know the number of children who are coming next year the better it is for our planning as the number of children in Kindergarten has a significant effect on the make-up of our classes and staffing across the school.

NSW Debating Championships

All the best to Jules Cross who is competing in the Primary Schools State Debating Championships from Monday to Wednesday.

Jules is representing the Sydney South-West region as one of the four best primary debaters and will be competing against the nine other regions in the state across a series of debates that will culminate in the 2019 final on Wednesday 6 November 2019.

Well done Jules for making it to the state championships. We wish you all the best. Debate hard!

Positive Behaviour for Learning News Week 4

Our lesson focus for K-6 Week 4 is “Be Respectful: We line up correctly”.

When we line up correctly we line up in a straight line and wait our turn. We always show respect and wait until we have been called. Please discuss with your child different places around the school when they would be required to line up correctly. Examples can include: lining up at the canteen, school office, at the library or on our way to assembly. We also need to line up when leaving or returning to our classrooms or when walking from one place to another across the school grounds.
