Term 4 Week 2

Acknowledgement of Country

We would like to acknowledge Goulburn as an important meeting place that was inhabited, at first contact with Europeans, by the Gundungurra and Ngunawal people who are the traditional custodians of this land. We would like to pay respect to Elders both past, present and future, also extending that respect to other Aboriginal people present today on the land in which we meet, work and live.

Welcome Back to Term 4

News from the South

Welcome back to our students, families and staff. It was great to see so many of our students back at school and ready to take on Term 4.

We need to reinforce that NO PARENTS or NON ESSENTIAL personnel  are to be on school grounds at any time. If you are dropping your child to school please remain outside the the school. If you are collecting your child early, again please remain outside the school and call the office 4821 27 59 to notify the staff that you are here to collect your child. Even though some restrictions have been lifted we request that parents continue to observe the social distancing rules and maintain 1.5 metre distance. Please do not congregate outside the school grounds - this request is for the safety and wellbeing of our school and community.

Most of our families know what an extra busy time Term 4 can be. We have started a 5 week gymnastics program which has been funded by the school. This will happen on Monday's, students need to remember to wear appropriate clothing - this means that our girls should wear shorts or pants. We are also celebrating Book Week this week with a Book fair and parade held on Friday 23rd October. Unfortunately this year we are unable to invite our families and community due to COVID, however stay tuned as we will be sharing photos through various platforms . This does not mean that students cannot take advantage of purchasing books on the day. We encourage families to return the wish list that was sent home with the students. Orders can be placed online but we need students to return  this to the school with their online receipt number and their list of ordered books. We can also accept cash if this is a more suitable alternative - where possible the correct money will help.

Our fencing is moving ahead very quickly and looking amazing. hopefully it will be finished within the next couple of weeks.

Welcome to Kindy 2021

Kindergarten Orientation 2021

Our kindy orientation will run differently this year. Mrs Manning and Mrs Patchett will be running a Meet and Greet at the Roses Cafe over two weeks where the families and the new kindies can meet, greet and have a cuppa. This will give our new parents the opportunity to have a one on one information session. We can't wait to meet our new kindies and their families.

Friendship Park @ Goulburn South

We have progressed considerably with the new Friendship Park. All the play equipment has been installed and we are now ready to complete the edging, shade sails and soft fall. This project has been quite an adventure and it is great to see it coming together.

Book Week Celebrations 2020

On Friday 23rd October 2020. Goulburn South will be celebrating Book Week in style. Students are invited to dress up as their favourite book character for the day. Costumes must relate to books and be appropriate for school (no off the shoulder or midriff tops). School hats and shoes must be worn. Carry a copy of your book so we can see what a great costume you have made. To adhere to COVID restrictions there will be a K-2 parade and a 3-6 parade. Unfortunately parents are not permitted to attend, however teachers will be taking photos to share with parents after the parades. We are looking forward to seeing all the fantastic costumes on the day.

Our Book Fair will still go ahead for students only on Friday 23rd October. during the week students will have an opportunity to preview the wonderful selection of books and complete their wish list to take home. Parents, caregivers and grandparents will be able to view these wish lists and encourage their children to purchase a book and support their Library. Payments for books can be completed online at www.scholastic.com.au/payment   then fill in your receipt number and details on the back of the wish list. Return the completed wish list with your child to the Library. Alternatively payments may be made at the school office by returning the wish list with the correct money in an envelope clearly marked with your child's name and class.

Students may also like to think about donating a book a book from the Fair to the school Library to add some new and current books to our collection.

Every purchase helps the school library and it is a great way to put books into the hands of our kids! I am so excited to be celebrating Book Week 2020 at Goulburn South. Please watch the following clip to see the importance of Book week and our Book Fair.

Student Voice PBL

Goulburn South Public School has recently been awarded Tier 2 of the Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) program.

Our journey has been extensive and we congratulate our staff and students for their dedicated approach to our school.

As part of our journey, our school has introduced a nominated cohort of students to join our PBL team.

Our ‘STUDENT VOICE’ committee members represent their peers at our PBL meetings, encouraging each other and their peers to continue their positive approach towards our school community.

The PBL team now consists of staff, our Student Voice members and our school leaders.

We have already met with this amazing team on a couple of occasions and appreciate the fantastic ideas they have suggested.

Goulburn South Public School will continue to grow and thrive with this new initiative. Please congratulate the students below on becoming our "Student Voice" members

KM News

KM have been investigating money. They were able to sort the money into coins and dollars. They have also been working hard with Ms Fennamore and Mr Wood. It is fantastic to see so many happy faces engaged with their learning.

2/3G News

I CAN deliver spoken texts for a range of purposes across all learning areas. This is our goal in 2/3G. We aim to either inform, entertain, persuade or ask questions during all learning experiences.

Oracy at Goulburn South is the ability to Speak, Listen and Interact, fluently and grammatically with peers. We value the practice of Oracy in 2/3G, through frequent talking opportunities during teaching and learning experiences.

Each day four students present a topic they would like to talk about to their class. They have individual goals to achieve through this practice.

Well done 2/3, so many of you are becoming confident in your ability to fluently express yourselves through speaking.

Week 2 – Term 4 – 2020

5/6O have been busy this week listening to, viewing and writing group speeches about major issues that affect children in today’s world. This is in preparation for Goulburn Souths annual public speaking competition held later this term. In Mathematics, we have been investigating data by creating dot plots and line graphs. We have also been creating Halloween art, playing volleyball, tennis and participating in the schools gymnastics program. Congratulations goes to Kassie, Katherine, Lucy and Bryan for receiving merit certificates these last two weeks.
