Principal's Message

Dear Families,

I cannot believe we are almost halfway through Term 4 and we are racing to fit everything in before the end of the year. Hold onto your hats as we have camps, hikes, transitions, swimming and much more.

Reviewing Our Years Work

Each year the Whole School Improvement Team reviews our Annual Implementation Plan (AIP) goals. This is an exciting time for us as we look back on our years’ work at a whole school level. Our goals for this year have been around supporting students to thrive within their learning and wellbeing. I am pleased to say that the early indicators suggest we have done this well.

Our data shows that we have significantly increased the number of students with high resilience and lowered the number of students experiencing bullying within the school. We have achieved this through all students participating in a weekly Wellbeing Hour that focuses on Emotional Literacy, Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness. We have worked above and beyond to make sure students get to practice the skills they have learnt during these lessons each day and through the experiences our S2S program offers.

The data is showing that the work we had done to improve student’s engagement in learning has had a major impact, with students feeling more ownership over the things they are learning in the classroom and feeling like they have a voice in how they learn and what they are learning. This has been done through regular student surveys and a commitment from teachers to make the adjustments suggested by their students.

Year 6 Musical

Well done to Monica, the Year 6 students and the whole Year 6 team. The musical was wonderful and it is so exciting to have musicals back on the program at MPS.

Thank you to all the parents and staff who helped set up, pack up and return instruments and equipment to school.

Classes for 2023

There is an incredible amount of work that goes into planning classes each year.  We need to determine the number of classes at each level, which staff will teach in each area and the best place for every student.  At this stage we are planning 23 classes across the school next year.

Next week students will be asked to identify 5 peers who they learn well with.  This helps us to create classes.  The biggest piece of work is our teachers using their experience, knowledge of students and professional judgement to place all 530(ish) students into classes.  Once we finalise classes students will spend a morning in their new classes with their new teacher in the last week of term.

Like always, please get in touch with us with any questions or concerns.  Call or email your classroom teacher, call the front office or email me Nicole.Comerford@education.vic.gov.au

Have a great weekend.

Take Care,

Nicole Salmon (Comerford)

State Athletics

Congratulations to our State Athletics competitors! These students were selected by time/distance to compete in Melbourne on Wednesday 2nd November. It’s a very difficult competition, with the best of the best in our State. Our 5 students represented our school brilliantly and should be very proud of making it to that level.

Well done to:

Paige Gridley in Discus

James De Montfort Wellborne in High Jump

Zali Hopkins in Hurdles

Zac Borg in Discus

Sarah Ingpen in Long Jump

Prep Hike

We had a fantastic day at our Prep Hike. The students got themselves ready at school, organising their School to Summit packs, excited for the day ahead. We arrived at Carter’s Road and started a scenic walk to a lovely spot for Sneaky Snack before the great hike. After getting ourselves refreshed and energised we began our walk from Carter’s Road to Mirimbah. Every student strived through the walk with lots of motivation, despite the rain. We all had an adventurous day with smiles all round.

Grade 1 Hike

Mud Galore!

The intrepid grade 1 students along with a band of experienced helpers including 2 nurses, a park ranger and 2 local police officers headed to Carter Rd for their School to Summit (S2S) hike. First stop was the newly refurbished Carters Road Camping ground for a well earned snack (it’s a long way on a bus after all!)  With questionable weather all week we were blessed with glorious blue skies and snow in the distance on Mt Buller. Small groups were formed and headed of to walk the Plain Creek Loop before lunch. The colours in the bush were incredible and the students were supporting each other, thinking about walking pace, taking the opportunity to be a leader of their group and directing each other around the massive bog holes. After lunch, water bottles were filled and everyone headed along a fast flowing and loud Delatite River towards Mirimbah. Little legs starting to tire! The end of the hike reward was a play on the Mirimbah Park playground. This hike builds on the hike the students did last year and was double the distance. Each year students build their skills and knowledge in the outdoors until their final Grade 6 journey from School to the Summit of Mt Buller.
