STUDENT LED CONFERENCES

Our inaugural FPS Student Led Conferences are less than a week away.  Next Tuesday your children will be showcasing their learning and sharing with you their growth and achievement.

As this is our first time communicating in this way, there are a few little hints and tips to support you, outlined below:

Logistics

·         As these conferences are ‘student led’ if you have opted for an after school time, you will need to bring your children with you – as they will be leading the show!

·         Outside of the scheduled times, families are invited to visit the Single Subject Areas (PAC Hall/Multi-Purpose Room/Library & Netball Courts) with your children, either before or after the classroom session.

·         Please arrive on time and wait to be welcomed into the classroom.  The scheduling is very tight and cannot be altered due to the knock-on effect.

·         Be aware that students will be rotating around various learning stations within the one timeslot, so there will be more than just you and your child in the room during the conference.

·         SLC are not a time for parents to meet with the teacher. Teachers will be in the room to support and guide our students with their sharing.

Supporting Your Children During the Conference

  • A bit of patience and time as they may feel a little overwhelmed initially
  • A smile – it will go a long way in making your child confident
  • Open-mindedness– to accept that he/she may not have done what you expected them to
  • A positive and encouraging attitude – that will stay with them through challenges and will help them in persevering
  • Appreciation– for every little thing that they are proud of
  • Allow them to present their learning journey in the sequence that they have chosen
  • Ask questions that are relevant to the work that is being discussed
  • Be prepared to interact with the sharing; some students may wish to ‘teach you’ how to complete some learning tasks

We are very much looking forward to Tuesday when our students take the lead and ‘show off’ all of the great things they have learned and achieved this year.

In partnership,

Danica Holloway

FPS UNIFORM

Thank you to those who provided feedback about our proposed uniform tweak.

We had 56 respondents, with 82% of these supporting the move to navy bottoms away from maroon.  Please be aware that moving to navy over maroon bottoms is a result of the limited availability of maroon bottoms, resulting in a mismatch of uniform colours between the top and the bottom. We want to reassure parents that this is a tweak and not an overhaul of our current uniform pieces. For those people who have expressed concern about us losing our traditional maroon connection, we certainly are not looking to change our maroon jacket and losing the focus colour of our uniform in maroon.

Along with the feedback about colour, there was also some responses outlining cost being a concern in moving to a soft-shell jacket. The soft-shell jacket will be more expensive than the polar fleece and similar in cost to the other microfibre jacket currently in circulation.  As a result of these concerns, the SAC are looking into possible ways to reduce the cost of new school jackets for our families.

Alongside this, we have made the decision to order and sell uniforms through the school office and not through Maveric Clothing in Ulverstone. Feedback about the convenience of having uniforms on site and the ability to select the uniform brands from our preferred suppliers has led us to this decision. We would like to extend a sincere thank you to Murray and his team at Mavericc for their support over several years.

Information about purchasing and ordering will be shared in the next little while, so please watch out for this.

NWPSSA ATHLETICS

The 5/6 Forth Athletics team for the NWPSSA Athletics Carnival will be notified by the end of this week. This event will be held on Wednesday September 21st. Students have completed selection trials during PE time and specific information for team members will be shared with the team when announced.

As a result of the Day of Mourning Public Holiday for Queen Elizabeth 11, the NWPSSA has changed the day of the 3/4 event to Tuesday September 20. Unfortunately, this change coincides with our Eisteddfod commitments and our scheduled Student Led Conferences, and as a result we will be unable to send a 3/4 Team this year. While this is very disappointing, our Student Led Conferences form a major part of our reporting to parents schedule and must be prioritised.

WE WANT YOUR FEEDBACK!

Every year the Department of Education conducts School Satisfaction Surveys to find out what your child(ren)'s school does well and where it may improve.

We would be grateful if you completed our online survey about Forth Primary School. Your feedback is very important to help us inform our school planning and decision-making.

The survey is now open and will remain open until Friday 23 September 2022 and should take about 5 minutes to complete.

Take the online survey by clicking this link Family School Satisfaction Survey 2022 (microsoft.com) or pasting it in your browser: https://ncv.microsoft.com/7J4xTUyA0F

The survey is carried out on a secure website and all responses are anonymous and confidential.

All families in this school received the same survey link and no identifying information is collected. A summary of the survey results will be provided to schools, and responses from individuals or small groups will NOT be disclosed to any Department of Education staff.

Please contact your school if you require any assistance.

Thank you for taking the time to fill in this survey.

GOLF SCHOLARSHIPS

Our Entertainment Membership fundraiser is running all year.  Your membership starts when you join up and finishes a year later, unlike past years when it started on one date every year and finished a year later.

A great idea for gifts as they can be given at any time of the year.

Proceeds from this fundraiser go towards our Bi-Annual Year 5&6 camp.
