A message from our Principal

Spring Fair

What an amazing community event this was! Numbers were well in excess of those anticipated and fortunately, the weather was outstanding – for a change! A massive thankyou to our hard-working P&C for all the organisation of the day – a culmination of many hours of volunteer work, all in the name of providing funds for the education of our local kids.

You are all a very big part of our school’s recent success, and it is a pleasure working alongside you. WWSPS has not held an event like this for a very long time and it was fantastic to see so many current and former families and students here to reconnect.

Staff News

This Friday is World Teacher’s Day, and every year our school is invited to nominate a staff member in recognition of going above and beyond. The recipient of the award for 2022 is…..Mrs Rebecca Eastgate, for her continued positivity and organisation of school events such as the Blokes’ Brekky, Ladies Breakfast and the upcoming Grandparents Day.

Everyone who has attended one of these events would attest to the level of care and organisation that has been shown. This has been critical to our community engagement in 2022 as we returned to full scale events and reconnecting with our school community.

At the end of this year, it will be with mixed feelings that we say goodbye to a long term and much-loved staff member, Mrs Kirsten Shearer. After starting here in 2007, Mrs Shearer has changed the lived of hundreds of WWS students as a passionate classroom teacher. She has recently secured a teaching transfer to Wyong PS, which will significantly reduce her travel time and allow her to be spend more time with her own children. On behalf of the whole WWS community, a huge thank you for your contribution to our school and all the very best for the next stage of your teaching career.

Tell Them From Me Survey

234 Responses so far! The Tell Them From Me survey for parents is open for 2022. This survey gives the school important information about what we are doing well, as well as providing valuable constructive feedback on ideas to make our school even better. The more responses we get the better our ability to make change. To access the survey please visit the following link -

http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/686kd

As in previous years, we will be running a competition for the K-2 and 3-6 classes with the highest percentage of parent responses. Your help with this is much appreciated. A note will soon be sent home with your child with details about the survey. If you complete the survey, please return the slip at the bottom of the form to your child’s classroom teacher.

Ready for School

The R4S program commenced this week in preparation for 2023 Kindergarten enrolment. A warm welcome to our new and known families – we look forward to sharing this important stage of your child’s development. If you know anyone living in our school zone who has kindergarten aged children for 2023, please don’t hesitate to refer them to our school office for further details.

Ethics Teachers

The Primary Ethics program is a very popular program that has been running at WWS in recent years. The program teaches students about sound decisions making and contributing positively in the community. Currently, we have a large group of students on waiting lists to attend Ethics, as the course relies on volunteer teachers from the community to run the lessons.

If you have an interest in being involved in the delivery of this highly valuable program at WWS, please contact the office so that we can provide you with the relevant details.

Leaving WWS in 2023?

If you are moving out of the area in 2023 and know you will not be returning to our school for the new year, please contact the office and let us know. This information is essential for the staffing and class formation process in the weeks to come.

Have a great week everyone,

Matt Barr

Principal

Student Executive Leadership Projects

This term there are two exciting projects coming to our school:

1.       Participation in the B&B Highway Initiative – Through this university-led project Woy Woy South will host a native stingless beehive, be given flowers to plant, and receive an interactive education session for students. Our installation date is the 25th October. We are grateful to the P&C for funding this project.

2.       Year 6 Heroes – Red Cross Australia will deliver a day long age-appropriate First Aid Course to Year 6 students. Students will learn skills to help in an emergency including CPR, and will receive a Certificate of Completion. Students will go through in three separate groups on November 14th (Monday), 28th (Monday), and 29th (Tuesday). This inaugural year of Year 6 Heroes has been funded by the Rotary Club of Umina Beach with money bequeathed by their former Secretary, Mike Curley, who was a strong supporter of the project. The Club is assisting with fund raising for future years. We thank them.

We are incredibly grateful to our volunteers, sponsors, stall holders, donation givers, performers, teachers and students for all their hard work and effort in bringing this event to life.

A massive thank you goes out to our local community who showed their support and were patient on the day, as we had far greater attendance than we even dared to dream of.  We love that we were able to create this fun event to bring everyone together after a few challenging years.
