PLEASE NOTIFY THE SCHOOL OF A CHILD'S POSITIVE CASE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

DoE Digital Learning Packs...

Although teachers won't be able to provide work to students, please find a link to the NSW DoE's digital learning packs, specifically designed for students K-10 who are isolating.

They are timetabled and your child will be able to work through them at their own pace.

https://education.nsw.gov.au/teaching-and-learning/learning-from-home/learning-at-home/2022-digital-learning-packs/primary

Note: Please do not hand this work in to your child's teacher, as it will not be marked.

EASTER EDITION - Paper mâché masks were made by students from 'Kids at the Arthouse'. Most were rabbits, but they also got a 'Year of the Tiger' mask, as well as a zebra/bunny. It’s so cute to see the change in their personality, as they suddenly take on the character of the mask when put on.

Balmain PS has a number of students who are extremely allergic to food items, such as peanuts, nuts and associated nut products. These students can have a *severe anaphylactic reaction* (in some cases, life threatening) if they consume or touch these products or traces of these products.

These students all have health care plans, however, prevention is much better than reaction.

Parents and carers are requested to consider eliminating peanut, nut and chocolate products that their child may bring to school in their lunch boxes.

Due to these severe allergies, we encourage you to consider an alternative to birthday cakes - perhaps a nut-free cupcake, lollies or ice-blocks...googling 'nut-free recipes' will bring up some easy-to-make alternatives/ideas.

The school understands that some students like peanut, nut and chocolate products very much, however, we ask that each family carefully considers the above information. Thank you.

From the Principal's Desk...

Hello from Adelaide...

Do you see what I see? Does the mural style look familiar? Yes! It's a mural by @rathman74. Scott Rathman's home is in South Australia and the first school we've visited here in Adelaide, Prospect North Primary School, has a deadly @rathman74 mural. Admittedly, I thought of Balmain as soon as we pulled up at the school, as the mural is visible from the front, feeling an instant connection with this place!

At the moment, Scott is actually in Sydney. Guess where? Yes...Balmain! This time, he'll be finishing off the water tank (as he got rained out back in February) and doing a mural inside the boys' and girls' toilets, over the weekend.

The mural was part of our 2021 Prime Minister Lexie's vision, when she approached the P&C for a toilet upgrade. Unfortunately, the mural wasn't factored in at the time when the P&C secured a grant for the works, so wasn't included.

At Balmain, we value and support student voice where possible, so the school is dedicated to making this happen!

Keep an eye on our Insta account for mural updates soon...

Mrs Maria Lambos - Principal

Fare thee well...

Bye, Mrs MB!

Assistant Principal and teacher of K Marlin, Mrs Belinda Mikhail Bryant, or Mrs MB as she's known around the school, is leaving the Balmain family. Belinda is understandably following her husband to Queensland for a job promotion.

Mrs MB has been such a valued member of our school over the years and will be missed by all! Thank you for all your support, contributions and expertise at BPS; goodbye and good luck! We wish you all the best!

So long, Mr Carlton!

Mr David Carlton, teacher of 1/2 Dugong and Stage One Coordinator, has also decided to spread his proverbial wings. Although he's been with us for only a few years as a temporary teacher (covering substantive staff on leave), David's been a committed, valued member of our family.

Mr Carlton is moving on to a new opportunity in working with a network of schools and leaders as an Educational Consultant for a company. We wish him the very best of luck with his new career path!

Welcome to the Balmain family...

Welcome, Miss Renae Bonney!

We recently advertised and held interviews for a suitable replacement to teach KM once Mrs Mikhail Bryant leaves at the end of this term.

The successful candidate is Ms Renae Bonney, who will be starting with us on day 1 next term! Welcome to K Marlin and Balmain Public School, Miss Bonney!

From Miss Bonney:

Hello, My name is Miss Renae Bonney and I am looking forward to getting to know you all! I have been lucky enough to teach in a diverse range of schools throughout my career, including in far western New South Wales and London, England. In recent years, I have worked in schools across Sydney in mainstream and special education K-6, with extensive experience in Kindergarten to Year Two.

I am passionate about teaching and take great pride in instilling and nurturing a love of learning in students. I am excited to be working alongside you in supporting your child through their first years of schooling and becoming a part of the Balmain Public School Community.

Welcome, Ms Lauren Burke!

Ms Lauren Burke, who is well-known to Balmain Public School, and has been working as our Learning and Support teacher, will be taking over 1/2D from the beginning of Term 2. Welcome to 1/2 Dugong!

From Ms Burke:

Most recently, I've worked as Balmain's Learning Support Teacher, previously taught Stage 1 - my favourite Stage - in 2020.

I have taught across all grades in many different schools in many different roles. I first came to BPS as a Uni prac student in 2011, returned in 2017 to teach Stage 2, and was privileged to watch my kindy prac-students graduate from Yr 6.

I love reading, running (we'll have to have a class entry for the Balmain Fun Run!), and you'll most likely see me around on the weekend at my kids' sports games; don't be afraid to say hi!

I look forward to working with you to support our students to grow and learn this year.

THANK YOU!!!!!

Trivia Night...

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are very excited about the upcoming Balmain Trivia Night Gala. This is one of key fundraisers for the school and is sure to be a fabulous night.

Date: 27 May 2022

Time: 7pm, for a 7:30pm start

Place: White Bay Passenger Terminal

The success of the evening turns on the valued contributions from the school community and we are looking for volunteers to assist in setting up the venue on the day and to help with the running of the Gala on the night. There will also be an online auction and we are calling for donations - we would particularly be interested in unique items to be auctioned live on the night (eg. holiday house, signed memorabilia, dinner banquet, hampers, experiences).

If you are keen to volunteer or donate an item, please email balmainpstrivia@gmail.com.

Tickets will go on sale in the first week of Term 2. We would love to see the broader Balmain community welcomed to the event, so feel free to share.

ALL Emails / permissions etc MUST include the student's FIRST NAME / LAST NAME & CLASS

Please remember that if you are collecting your child early for an appointment or dropping them off, please ensure you allow extra time for your child to be located and brought down to the office.
