Principals report

It’s the end of Term 1 and it is the first time in years that we have had an uninterrupted term of learning – which has been wonderful.

Zig Zag Public School is a great school, with wonderful teachers, fantastic students and always supportive parents and carers.

Thank you everyone for a great term.

We will see students back at school for the start of Term 2 on Wednesday 26th April.

On Tuesday 25th April, I hope to see lots of Zig Zag Students representing our school in the Lithgow Anzac Day March. (see below for details)

Wishing all our families a safe and happy Easter holiday.

TERM 2 School Development Day - Pupil Free Day - Monday 24th April

Dear Parents and Carers,

Our school will be joining with all other public schools across NSW on Monday 24 April 2023 to carry out professional learning focused on Aboriginal Education. School development days are used by schools to build on the knowledge and skills of our teachers, school leaders and school administrative support staff through a targeted professional learning program.

The professional learning has been planned around the unique needs of our school community and will help to sustain positive change and improve both educational outcomes and wellbeing for all learners.

I want to thank you for your ongoing support as we work to improve outcomes for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students and increase knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal histories and cultures.

Kind regards,

Vicki Gillmore

Anzac Day March Tuesday 25th April 2023

Students and staff of Zig Zag Public School will be marching in the Lithgow ANZAC Day March. This year the march falls on the Tuesday prior to the students returning to school on the Wednesday.

We would like as many of our students as possible to march on the day.  Parents are asked to bring their children to the Lithgow Public School gates in Eskbank Street at 10.15am and meet Mrs Gillmore.  The march commences at 10.30am. Students will need to be dressed in full school uniform to take part in the march.

Parents will be able to collect students from Queen Elizabeth Park after the ANZAC Day service.  I look forward to seeing our students in Eskbank Street at 10.15am.

Stage 3 Science

Our students loved transition to High School activities with Lithgow High School.

Life Education - Healthy Harold

Our students loved their visits to Healthy Harold in the Life Education Van. They had fun educational lessons that help to empower safe, healthy and happy choices.

Clean Up Australia

We joined schools across Australia to get stuck in and make a real difference to our environment and local community through participating in Schools Clean Up Australia.

World Down Syndrome Day

On 21st March we celebrated World Down Syndrome Day.

On this day, people all around the world celebrate the lives and achievements of people with Down Syndrome. March 21st provides an opportunity to raise awareness about the rights and inclusion of people with Down Syndrome around the world.

We also asked the children to bring in a gold coin donation.

Thank you to our very generous School Community who helped us raise  $87.50. Well done Zig Zag Public School.

This has been donated to  The World Down Syndrome Organisation.

Crazy Sock Day

Harmony Day

We celebrated multiculturalism in Australia and recognised that this is the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

The day started with a sea of orange and by learning about the significance of the day.

We listened to students share stories about the different cultures in our school community. Lots of incredible lunchboxes took up up the Cultural or Orange Lunchbox challenge!

The students loved learning about cultures of the world as they moved around bases in their Peer Support Groups.

They learnt about languages, customs, flags, cultural dress, songs, dance, festivals, food, school in other countries and crafts from Italy, India, Cyprus, Thailand, Columbia and Japan.

At lunch time our cleaner Alan spoke to all of us about Cyprus where he was born and treated us to a beautiful performance of Turkish guitar. What a fabulous day learning to embrace our differences with understanding and interest.

Buddies

Our Year Six students came downstairs to give a special delivery to their Kindergarten buddies … Buddy Bear!Big buddies read a picture book to their little buddies and they made an Easter craft together.

Head Lice

As we have had a few cases of headlice reported to the school could you please have a look at the document below and be vigilant about checking your child/childrens hair regularly.

Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
