MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

$50 CREDIT FOR 100% ATTENDANCE

Please remember that the $50 credit for students attaining 100% attendance can be used for excursions, uniforms, equipment and anything else school related.

Congratulations to those students who are on their way to 100% attendance and receiving the $50 credit for term one.

New SMS System – Absences

The school will be trialling a new system that will alert you if your child (children) are absent from school.  This system will be automated and your response recorded.

The aim of this system is to assist both Parents/Caregivers and the school, to provide timely responses about the absence of your child/children.  As this is a trial, please work with us to ensure its accuracy.  This involves contacting the school office if you have a new mobile number and email address.

Leadership Conference

I would like to thank Mrs. Palenzuela for taking our leaders to a conference in the city.  The leadership conference helped our leaders to enhance their skills and confidence.  They attended the conference in their new leadership uniforms and they looked amazing.  Well done and we are sure glad you attended.

Yours in education,

Janine Macky

Principal

Our First School Assembly for 2020

Last week we held our first whole school assembly for 2020. Lead by the Leadership team, we announced the Student Representative Council (SRC) for the year and presented an individual from each class the Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) award for their consistent contribution to developing a positive, safe and supportive learning environment for our school. Well done students!

Stage 1 Gets Physical!

Our Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2) students are jump starting each day with physical activities. Physical activity is vital for a child’s development and lays the foundation for a healthy and active life. Our program focuses on three different types of activities to promote healthy growth and development:

Endurance

Endurance or aerobic activities such as running and jumping are important for the development of a healthy heart and lungs.

Flexibility

We encourage children to bend, stretch and reach. Having flexibility allows children to hold good body posture for learning, and to participate in daily activities without pain or restriction from their muscles or joints.

Strength

Working against a resistance helps children build stronger muscles. Stage 1 just love doing push ups!

Our Little Free Library

Our Little Free Library has been launched! Students and parents are enjoying browsing and borrowing books before school each day.  The Library is in the courtyard each morning (depending on weather).Feel free to drop by and select a book with your child.  You may simply read with them before school or borrow for an after school read.  You may also swap or donate books that your children have outgrown - the books in the library have been in such demand that supplies are running low.  Thank you to Grace and the parent helpers who are looking after the library each morning.

The Daily 5

This term our Y3-6 students have been learning about The Daily 5.  This is a structure where students learn to become independent across all areas of literacy.  Students have been taught how to choose ‘good fit books’ to read in class and how to have free choice to plan and write what they are interested in.  Our students are loving to read books from our newly purchased classroom libraries and to borrow additional books weekly from the library.  All students have their own book box and change their books weekly.  We are so excited about the learning culture of reading and writing taking place in our literacy block.
