Monday 21st September 2020 Term 3 W10

From the Principal

Student Success:

Congratulations to our Stage 3 students who participated in the Rock and Water Program last week. The students focused on activities to develop their self-awareness, self-confidence and reflection throughout the week. The activities develop understandings about who they are and how to deal with conflict successfully.

The program was a great success and the students really enjoyed it. Stage 2 are engaging in teambuilding activities throughout this week and are looking forward to the fun.   More photographs will be shared on our website this week.

Term 3 holidays:

This Friday is the last day of this term. I hope you all have a fantastic holiday. School will resume for all students on Monday October 12th.

School Safety:

We are very pleased to announce that Transport NSW have installed flashing lights in our school zone on Warners Bay Rd. These lights will make it safer for our students walking to and from school and we are pleased that Transport NSW are supporting our school in this way.

Cybersafety:

Below is a link for parents to a resource on how to talk to your child about unwanted contact on the internet. It is becoming increasingly more common for young people to be approached online by people they don’t know and it is important that they have the skills to know when to switch off and talk to their parents. All students have also been reminded recently on what to do if you are approached by someone that you don’t know online.

Curriculum:

Our teachers this term have been involved in professional learning around numeracy, comprehension and working with students who are gifted. The learning is now being implemented in classrooms to further our students’ skills and understandings of the curriculum.

Out of Uniform Day

SHOW US YOUR COLOURS!!

Year 6 Student Executive team would like to invite all WBPS students to bring a gold coin donation and come out of uniform on Thursday 24th September. Students are encouraged to wear the colours of their favourite sporting team. This funds raised on this day will go towards the Year 6 gift to the school at the end of the year.

Enrolments 2021:

We are currently looking forward to plan for 2021. If you are moving away and your child is leaving the school, please let us know. If you know of any kindergarten child who has not yet enrolled for 2021, please ask them to visit our office to enrol.

Parent Survey:

Thank you to everyone who completed the parent survey recently. We appreciate your input and feedback so we can continue to improve and develop our programs. There were a couple of points raised in the survey that I would like to explain. The OOSHC tender process is a Department process that we do not control. It was unfortunate that it happened part way through the year, but we are told when it will occur by our Assets Department. The tender panel had a parent representative nominated by the P&C to evaluate the tenders. The process is very formulaic with the contract being awarded to the tender with the highest score overall. Unfortunately, it is not a process that goes out for community consultation, apart from having the parent representative on the panel.

Communication continues to be something that we work on in our school. To further improve our processes, we will be opening the Sentral Parent Portal later this year. This portal will allow you to send messages directly to the teacher to replace Class Dojo. I am confident this will alleviate some of the concerns you have about being able to contact teachers directly.

Thank you again for completing our survey. There were points raised that we are working on and many positive comments made about our school. As always, if you have a comment or suggestion throughout the year, you can contact me at school at any time to share your thoughts.

Interns:

A big thank you to our interns, Breanah Davis, Emily Richmond, Brody Rouhan and Tara Burgess who have been working in our school this term. They have all done an amazing job with our students and we wish them well in their future careers. Good luck!

Uniform Shop:

The Uniform Shop will be closed this Thursday but will re-open on Thursday of Week 1, Term 4.

P&C Meeting:

The next P&C Meeting will take place on Wednesday October 14th at 6pm via Zoom.  A link for the meeting will be sent out via our Skoolbag app when school resumes in Term 4.

OoSHC Update

A note from OoSH...

Change is inevitable. 2020 a history teacher's nightmare, or the change we want to be. On behalf of Camp Australia may I thank all the families who have supported the OoSHC service at Warners Bay Public School and made it a community where our children belong and thrive.Throughout the term we have endeavoured to challenge, innovate, extend your childrens' interests, whilst scaffolding skills and social wellbeing. Our best afternoons have been enjoying fresh air and mobilo construction. Term 3 highlight was the 2020 Handball Competition. Third year of the competition, 2020 overall winner Nathan Pearson. Alexis Dykes (Primary) and Layken Campbell (Infants)

Week 10 is the last week under Camp Australia. As the past becomes - so also the future unfolds. In the change-over, Bayley, Hannah and Pam look forward to welcoming all our families in  term 4 as OOSH Warners Bay.

Kindest regards,

Pam Connell

Library News

Book Parade Our annual book parade will be going ahead in Week 2 of Term 4.  Due to COVID, there will be restrictions and changes to our normal running of the event but, at the moment, we are planning to run smaller year-based parades and we will share photos with family and friends afterwards.  We will communicate the details once we are aware of the COVID guidelines for Term 4.  In the meantime, start thinking about costumes!

Mindfulness Mondays

Let’s Thrive Together!

Every Monday in Term 4, second half of lunch, Miss Saunders will be offering a fun and exciting mindfulness program to all students who would like to participate.

 What’s Mindfulness?

We like to think of it as an approach to building healthy minds, engaged classrooms and equipping a generation of young people with skills they need to thrive in life.

Being mindful invites us to become in tune with our body and recognise how we think and feel.

By practicing mindfulness, we build resilience, confidence and a sense of peace.

If you would like to have a go at some fun activities, come and hang out or have a chat to Miss Saunders or your friends, come along!

Activities may include:

●       Yoga for kids

●       Meditation

●       ART activities

●       Exploring our emotions & how we feel

●       Outside nature activities

●       Reading

●       Stretching & movement

●       Quiet time

●       Buddy activities

Tell them from Me

During Week 1, Term 4, WBPS is taking part in the second Tell Them From Me student survey. The survey will provide us with valuable feedback on what our Yrs 4-6 students think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. Schools in Australia and around the world have used the Tell Them From Me survey to help them improve. The survey is completed on-line and is run by an independent research company, The Learning Bar, which specialises in school-based surveys.

Staff in schools will not be able to identify individual students from their responses. The survey typically takes 30 minutes or less to complete and will be administered by the school during normal school hours. Once the surveys are completed by students, reports are prepared and in most cases are available to schools within three business days.

This survey will help our school better understand how to improve student wellbeing and engagement. It will help the school identify what works to improve student outcomes.

Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary. Your child will not take part if either you or your child do not wish. If you do not want your child to take part in the survey, please complete the note attached via the link below:
